Had to fix up a laptop I wasn’t using and noticed Football Manager 2010 was on there. The database is from Pre-Season 2009 so it’s League One and minus ten with Markus, Cortese and Pardew. Rickie Lambert has just arrived to terrorise League One and a 15-year old Alex Oxlade-Chaimberlin is the brightest young talent in the academy. I’m going to let it sit and simulate by itself up to 2020 and see how we get on.
https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/...man-southampton-fc-vs-wycombe-wanderers-20-21 Interesting that Kelvin Davis & Craig Fleming have been training the U23s in recent weeks. Wonder if that's part of the new B-Team model with coaches coaching multiple age groups?
England squad due to be announced Tuesday - what do we reckon on Ings chances? Personally it would be ridiculous if he isn't called up, but he doesn't play for Liverpool/City/Manu etc. so more than likely will miss out.
And Jesse Lingard. And Ross Barkley. And Fabian Delph. The usual underwhelming big 6 english players.
This was a pleasant little distraction. Saints made it to the Premier League fairly fast. Pardew was sacked part way through the first season and replaced by Terry Vennables! He only lasted a year before being replaced by an unknown from the lower leagues who has now been Southampton manager for eight years. Morgan Schneiderlin has been captain for the whole time. He’s taken them to the PL, been relegated and then promoted back as champions. Around the leagues, Pompey were relegated in their first year and are now down in league one with Bournemouth. Spurs, powered by Defoe and Bale, ended up winning three titles and three champions leagues under Harry Redknapp before having their dominance broken up by City and Chelsea. However the most interesting transfer in ‘2010’s 2020’ was Gareth Bale returning to Southampton after a tough year at CL-chasing Blackburn where he constantly clashed with their manager Alan Shearer.
Not even on the database. He was in the lower tiers of the German leagues at that point so I’m not sure he was in the game to begin with. I just started a new one in 2013. This is the Cortese/Reed/Pochettino vintage. The season just before Meltdown Alpha began. What an exciting team that was. I’ll see where seven years takes us.
Have you actually paid attention to the last few England squads? They've been full of young, exciting players. And Southgate has always called up players who deserve it so Ings will be included. JWP could also get the nod.
Ings will be included. I’m 100% confident of that. JWP also has a very strong chance. Redmond won’t be far off Southgate’s radar either but we have so many decent wingers. The problem is if they start playing (and play well) for England, they tend to leave.
Ings,Redmond and JWP should get a call up .......however I think only Ings will get called up and not play because Rashford and Kane will always get picked first ........happy to be proved wrong .....however.
Disagree with Redmond. Not enough goals or assists to be in contention. Rashford and Kane will always be picked because they are bloody good players.
