He missed a few sitters early doors for us and I don't think his confidence has ever recovered. Sure I've read Parky said he's moved up here now and I hope he's a lot more settled. Looked sharp today like, know it's only the Heed but still bodes well. He is a very good striker for this level and if we can get him going, we'll be top two easy.
afore anyone starts, aye it was 'only the heed' but anyone who watched will tell you not one of the heed lads need hang their heads after that game, they played very well, proved a stubborn defensive unit and a decent counter attacking threat..well done gateshead. both sides used the game to try a few things out, 'blood' a few youngsters, look at some trialists...in the end and particularly after the mass subs, the extra class began to tell. first half was pretty much some nice passing moves, being patient trying to break them down but the final ball was a let down every time, still not convinced dawson should be in there, couple of mistakes, one lead to the equaliser but also some decent passes but he always looks as if he is struggling to kick the ball more than 10 yards to me. wyke, not interested, hope he is back up only...i do not care who you are when through on goal you either bury the fecker or at least have a decent effort, friendly or not...grigg on the other hand, took his offside chance well, his goal came from one of diamonds good crosses and his assist was perfect for scowen...new lads slotted in very well and never put a foot wrong, handled everything as if it were a 'proper game'. result of course is secondary but even on that showing the team looked much better than it has in the recent past for friendlies, plenty of smiles from lads who actually enjoyed beingon the pitch.
New season, new start for me. His attitude has annoyed, the complete look of disinterest in him sometimes, but if he knocks a couple in all will be fine with me. Remember Marcus Stewart went a long time struggling then left loved by all. Hopefully Grigg can do it. Was a good header that today and he looked a lot more involved in the game.
Moved to the NE hasn't he? Can't have been conducive for good performances travelling 4-5 hours a day back and forth to the NW.
I can't talk about home games but the away support gave him good backing even when he missed chances ... ... it was only his reluctance to chase down defenders that made people groan. I remember Rowell scoring a home hat trick, in a game we won easily, but he was still closing down the centre backs. If Grigg shows willing people will get behind him.
Of course he could certainly put more effort in, at times he seems rooted to the spot. But he will be forgiven his seeming lack of effort if he bangs in the goals.
Poor start, other than the goal from Maguire, we didn’t really create a lot. The game changed with the subs. Grigg looked sharp and Diamond looks a real prospect. Charlie Wyke is absolutely abysmal mind and I’ve really wanted him to come good.
Cheers mate been working all day so just catching up. Do you think Diamond stands a chance this season. Watched him a bit before he went out on loan. Not an obvious talent, but I think there could be a good footballer in there
Sounds like Embleton is ok just tightness in his thigh. Could well be his body getting used to competitive football again.
hard to say on that 'half' a performance but if he can keep up that work rate and supply into the box he would have to be in the reckoning, obviously a young lad eager to impress but did what he had to do without racing all over the place like many do...to be honest, all the young lads did a job, only 2 i personally have any question marks over are dobson and wyke. edit only after i typed that i realised i called him 'dawson' in my previous thread...DOH!!
Never been a fan of the Flanagan tbh and Grant unfortunately looks well off the pace, both, as with the two you mentioned, Dobson and Wyke are decent back up players at best . To get back on my favourite hobby horse I can't fathom how Dobson is rated a better bet than Ethan Robson tbh.
