Abstinence has been more successful in the past, but even when it is followed, it tends to cause early marriage, with people who are little more than children get married more out of lust than anything else. This is clearly not ideal for most people. RebelBhoy is advocating abstinence until you meet the right person, which is a lovely idea. However, without wishing to flatter him, I venture that Rebel is more educated and sensible than your average hormone-enthused young adult, who will happily make life-changing vows mainly to get his/her end away.

To be honest I think this is Rebel's blind-spot. On most other things he is very sensible and rational, but his dogged support and trust in abstinence is ridiculous IMO.
People in Europe didn't stop shagging about in the past when they had the possibility of contracting numerous debilitating or lethal diseases, so why should it stop Africans now?

This started with the notion that the Pope could wipe out AIDS by saying that folk should use condoms. The message of the church would wipe out AIDS too. This is absolutely and utterly irrefutable. Other arguments have been put out there to cloud the issue. that is all.
