I asked for an explanation as though I were a Sub Saharan African teen. I told you the role I would be playing and your explanation was not satisfactory.

    Not really...

The problem is that people want to have sex. It's a natural human instinct. People have sex, get over it, so they need to do it safely. Condoms are the only known way of preventing the transmission of HIV whilst still being able to have sex with someone you haven't had blood-tested first.

You can't tell people to 'not have sex', it's not how the world works <ok>

I'm not going to get into the "put on a rubber" argument <ok>... but in essence, advising someone to abstain from sexual contact is good advice in an Aids affected area. Whether you abide by that is your own personal choice and risk. However I do not believe the blame lies with the stance of the Catholic Church e.g. If an African dude is ready for a ride, does he say to the woman "I'm not gonna wear a rubber cause the pope says so!". I personally dont think so. My view is that Condoms are not readily available or not affordable in small towns and villages across Africa, that is why Aids is spreading. I'm sure if a comparison was done, Aids would be evenly spread across all denominations.

The Pope? Believe in all this 'not before marriage' bullshit if you want, marriage does not stop the transmission of AIDS <ok>

If only God loved his creations, there's wouldn't be this problem. Oh I forgot, it's all a 'test' <doh>

Yeah you would just have a ****.

You bark on about abstinence and the use of condoms in Africa yet you don't practice it yourself. A tad bit hypocritical.

The Pope may not personally prevent people from using condoms, but he's a significant part of a cultural denial of safer sex.
He's not just against the use of condoms, but against their distribution.

    Abstinence isn't an option.
It doesn't happen, so can people stop suggesting it as a realistic alternative?

<laugh> Marriage in itself does not stop the spread of AIDS. Adherence to the principles of a marriage most certainly does.

    Agreed?

Why is it not a realistic alternative. It has been part of the fabric of society for many thousands of years. Abstain until you meet with the correct partner for you.
