Spurs' Midfield

In the build up to the North London Derby and interesting question is posed in respect to the heart of Arsene Wenger's football philosophy. During his spell in charge, AW has front-loaded his teams' success on the performance and quality of his midfield. Compare now the likely starting V for Spurs on Sunday:

    Modric
    Bale
    Sandro
    Parker
    Van der Vaart

Would it be fair to say that any, if not all, of these players would walk and be welcomed into the Arsenal team. Is it infact Arsenal's inferiority to United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs in just the Midfield that is responsible for your near relegation form?

    Interesting...

    Modric - Yes
Bale - Overhyped by media. Couple of great performances make him god, but I'd rather have Walcott or Chamberlain!
Sandro - WTF? Of course not.
Parker - Possibly. I still think Song is better though.
Van Der Vaart - Possibly. He hasn't been playing that well recently though...

Meh, it depends. I'd take most of them I imagine but I'd reluctantly have to let go of Diaby, Rosicky and Denilson to balance the books!

    PS. I rather like Sandro.

I dont mind a bit of Wumming.

Sure we lost two World Class midfielders in Fabregas in Nasri. (and we will probably add another midfielder in January. Wenger will most likely re-bid for M'Villa or Goetze)

But I actually think Wilshere's injury has been the biggest problem for us. In our wins against United, Chelsea and Barcelona last year Wilshere was our best player.

Modric - Wilshere. Wilshere is equally as creative and unlike Modric he can actually tackle. At only 19 Wilshere is already at Modric's level.
Bale - Walcott, he gets more goals and more assists than the Welshman.
    Sandro - Arteta.
Parker - Song. One of these players got relegated while the other regularly plays in the Champions league.
Van der Vaart - Arshavin. Stats dont lie the lazy Russian still out performs the Dutchman. (10 Goals and 18 Assists last year for Arshavin.)

  9. Further evidence of the stupidity of multi-board postings.

Oh the Wilshere's better than Modric thing - the goon thug is injured and might not recapture his form whist Modric is fit, firing on all cylinders and has a decent attitude.

    Modric > Wilsherefornowbutonlyuntilabetteroffercomesalong

Good article from the kuntish man <ok>

What a completely stupid comment to make, your again only letting yourself down and making a fool of yourself.
The lack of class, intelligence and complete hypocrisy of some of the Spurs fans on this site is embarrassing.

The sad sight of a grown man using an avatar of a player who cried all summer to try and get a move to a bigger club and London rival, claimed his head was not right when asked to play, yet this same individual has plenty to say on the Tevez incident and wums about it is nothing short of astounding.

Please no more, nobody here can you take you seriously pal, it's embarrassing for you and you have nothing to contribute but juvenile wummery.

I stopped taking spurs fan seriously last year, when some of them claimed van der vart was on a par with bergkamp.

Hasn't modric had one good game this season, against a team that ended up with 9 men?

  14. In terms of the Arsenal midfield, it is indeed superior to Spurs, but we have our best player out- Wilshere

He is a class above Modric. In fact there is not a single midfielder in world football that I would swap Wilshere for. Modric does very little over a season except keep possession. Possession doesn't win games, as Arsenal know too well.

Bale, fast and dangerous, but terrible end product and doesn't score enough. He is technically better than Walcott and beats players more easily, but Walcott creates amd scores more goals. That's just reality.

Sandro? Give me a break. Would take Song ahead of him all day long.

As for van der vaart, he is a great player, and would get in our first team now that Fab has gone. Better than Arteta.

It's always a bit silly to judge one player vs another off the back of the first 6 games of the season. If you judge it over a longer period, Arsenal come out on top. That's not to say we will win on Sunday. FORM wise, Spurs are ahead.
