Seems to have gone all quiet on the defender search front. Hopefully wheels are turning in the background.

From the papers here in Oz.......

The Socceroos believe they still have a chance of tying down Lyndon Dykes despite reports the QPR-bound striker is set to pledge his international future to Scotland.

Dykes is closing in on a record £2 million ($3.6 million) transfer to English Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers from Livingston, the Scottish club where he has enjoyed a breakout season.

There are few Australian strikers playing consistently at a high level in Europe, and the QPR move could give Dykes a platform to challenge the likes of Adam Taggart for a regular spot in the Socceroos.

But the late-blooming 24-year-old, who was born on the Gold Coast and also spent time in Canberra as a child, may never pull on the green and gold with reports from Scotland suggesting he has finally settled his international allegiance.

The Scottish Sun is reporting that Dykes has told close friends he wants to play for Scotland, where his parents are originally from, rather than Australia.

Dykes has publicly changed his mind several times since breaking into the senior team at Livingston, where he scored 12 goals in 33 games this season.

In November, he told the Herald: "Obviously I can play for Scotland as well ... but if both of them were on the table, I'd love to play for Australia."

As recently as July he told British media he was "pretty sure" but not "100 per cent" which option he would choose.

A spokesperson for Football Federation Australia said it had heard nothing official from Dykes and that the Socceroos were still hopeful of winning him over.

Graham Arnold's assistant, Rene Meulensteen, visited Dykes in Scotland earlier this year, watched him play and took him out for coffee to discuss where he could fit in the Australian set-up.

FFA remains confident that Australia's track record of qualifying for major tournaments may yet sway Dykes from Scotland, who haven't made a World Cup appearance since 1998 and last reached the Euro finals in 1996.

His sister, Hollie, represented Australia in gymnastics at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, winning two gold medals, a silver and a bronze. She said earlier this year she was trying to convince him to play for the Socceroos.

"Obviously my sister wants me to go with Australia because she represented Australia, but it's not as easy as that," he told the BBC. "In future, it will come out to the public, but at the moment I am concentrating on my club football."

Not606ers have said that a transfer fee of anything under £200m (plus add ons obviously) for Eze would be a gross under valuation and should lead to a season long boycott of all home games

With all due respect, if he has a choice, hopefully from a selfish QPR point of view, he chooses Scotland.

This business of travelling 25k miles to play a match against the Solomon Islands (or whoever) in an Asia/Oceania qualifier would not be good for his club. I always felt Luongo was never the same player for a few weeks after he travelled long distances to play for Oz.

I met him outside Westfield the morning of a match a couple of years ago as he was dropping his kids and missus off. She obviously likes shopping close to her hubbie's job lol.

I said hello and unlike some other football players that I've met, he was actually very down to earth.
