Maybe this Nunez fellow is seen as a replacement? A couple on SW say he looks useful. I haven't even seen a youtube clip!
I was reminded of that last night seeing Inter in the Europa Semi. Not playing our captain in any of those games was utterly bonkers We beat Sparta 3-0 in our first game, beat Inter once and deserved to beat them twice and managed to get knocked out while trying to play out a 0-0 draw at home v the weakest team in the group and without our captain. Oh Claude!
And one of the assists of the season at Fratton Park to set up Ings' second goal. 19 years old is too early to say but I like him. Definitely raw, but I think he's worth keeping hold of another couple of years. As an fully-grown adult he could be a beast. The way he runs reminds me of Ian Wright (I only said 'runs', not 'plays', before anyone goes nuts). EDIT: He turned 20 last month.
I think with regards to Obafemi, the question is can we sell him and replace him with an even better prospect? I'd be happy to trust Ralph with that decision.
Yep, he reminds me a bit of Michail Antonio when he was here, there is a player there but he's raw and takes the wrong option sometimes but ultimately it is down to Ralph if he thinks he can work to improve him.
Which is why I feel a loan might be the making of him. Somewhere where he gets regular 1st team football and can learn his art. Then he can come back to us stronger than ever
What do you guys think makes a good player? For me it is a player who frequently does the job wether it be stopping goals, scoring goals, or making goals. All I ever ask a player to do is to always do his best win or lose.
I think Obafemi could be a decent player, but he needs to work really hard on his game (like Ward-Prowse did when Ralph came in) and he also needs much more match minutes, which at the moment is hard to see him getting. Hard to know whether a loan would be the making of him or not. JWP never had one, so it can be done without going elsewhere. Ralph certainly rated him when he came in and was pushing him to change his lifestyle, so he must see big potential.
Same. He has some good qualities for a modern striker, and if he can improve his stamina and awareness, he could be very useful. He should be an ideal forward in Ralph's setup with his pace and physicality, but he has to put in the work.
Commitment and effort are all good. But I think you're overlooking the importance of haircuts, tattoos, goal celebrations, instagram posts and double-barreled names.
I find being good at football helps. I would always do my best if given a place in the squad. I would also be, comfortably, the worst player in the history of top flight football. Hard work is necessary, but it's not enough.
Obafemi has massive potential, basically Shane Long pace with the ability to actually finish. His performances also haven’t been shabby when you consider his age. He could be an incredible player if he applies himself correctly.
He could easily double barrel his name by using Oba Femi, but I prefer his Irish name of O’Bafemi. I think he could become a decent player, but needs to work on impressing when he comes off the bench. He needs to provide an impact. Equally, when he starts, he needs to be more involved with play. He can score and he can pick out a decent pass, but at best he is currently 3rd/4th choice.
