liked the look of gonzalez, looks chalk and cheese with the Brazilian... tricky winger v big lump target man. Is it too greedy to ask for both
As much as I like Ben White, paying silly money shouldn't be done as far as I'm concerned. We have got to live within our means especially as things have turned upside down with coronavirus so there needs to be a reality check.
I agree it is getting to be lala land type money. I'm just wondering though, given the obvious camaraderie, how much a Ben White in the team is worth to the other players performances? I know it shouldn't make a difference but it may do.
I think that counts for something Eric, but the main ‘added extra’ thing is a year of proven success in bielsaball. Centre half is a crucial position for any team but bielsa likes to have a baller there who can pass and carry and sees it as critical to the way we play. if you want a young highly rated centre half, it’s going to cost you... your choice is a less proven option for cheaper and hope it pans out. Given the importance of the position, when you’ve made it the Prem it may seem riskier not to spend the money. Robin Koch, who we’re linked with every window is now a full German international with two full seasons in the bundesliga behind him. Apparently very good on the ball and a decent defender... If we were able to get him, he certainly won’t be cheap!
Ben White has been offered 20K a week by Brighton, that is a player they value at £40m it is crazy but I guess it is a case of they don't want or need to sell but everyone has their price
Sorry if you misunderstood my point. By telling a player he is worth 40 to 50 million then offering him the wages of a player worth 15 to 20. They have created a situation where the player possibly becomes unhappy. This could have an adverse affect on his form which could damage his future and then his value to the club.
Who sets the wages? Times are different and clubs were paying too much to start with. Now with the virus and no crowd revenue it's getting tighter. About time foitballers got a dose of reality and showed some humility and be grateful for being pampered.
I think you said it all there - "centre half is a crucial position" - team before self and to cap it all he is their mate.
Ayling is a big mate of that centre back we had who partnered pontus. But on the field they would forget that.
Probably, but I think the team integrity is perhaps something that is in play with the pursuit of White. I still think the prices being quoted by the press are stupid but it isn't just about getting a CB.
Milky Ribin Koch is only £10m as last year of contract. I watched some clips of him yesterday and he does exactly what White does. He reads the game and snuffs out attacks, he charges forward beating players all over, he has a wand of a pass long range too, but he also scores goals and assists. So a better playerbthan White and proven at top level and Internationa
i saw a fig of 30m chucked about for him yesterday and then read the same article you did this morning! Think both are made up press guesses. He's certainly a baller in the white mould and proven in a good league. Be very happy with him, if it happened.
So i read on prem league site this morning we have just three weeks and three days left till fixtures start again. So no rush there then take your time victor............ Don't panic Captain Mainwaring.
Don Revie would have hated him then all that charging forward. Big Jack was told to cut out the fancy stuff.
