I got an LG tv last year off amazon
    My lad did it obviously
Was a right bargain and 100 quid less than all the other tv’s they had
Think they made a cock up as I pad 330 quid and after I bought it it was 500!
Think they knew they’d made a cock up as I waited nearly two months for it!! <laugh>

This only applies to the stuff Amazon supply directly, the majority of the stuff sold on Amazon is from third party sellers with fixed prices, that aren’t subject to any algorithms at all.

Oh definitely, yes, apologies. As you say Amazon Marketplace is a massive concern now, which is why prior to posting I changed what I had written, which was that Amazon is seen as a shop, but it’s really a Turkish-style market with no fixed prices - but that categorically is Amazon itself and, ironically, not Amazon Marketplace.

The same algorithms work with flights and accommodation, always use different devices and a vpn if you can.

If you ignore food then yes that is lazy for many people
If everyone buys off amazon then in a few years amazon will be able to raise all prices, all of the time, because there’ll be no other options

I thought that was just me being cynical! I tend to check stuff on my phone, then go on main laptop to buy
Maybe that’s why Askew always claims I’m luck with holiday deals!

    Oh...
But here’s a rare glimmer of good news
You might not recall but my daughter left her job as a senior fashion designer for a high street company to move out of London and start as a designer for a different company in Manchester
Before she started the new job they laid her off.
Anyway today they contacted her to say things were looking up a bit and asked her to do some freelance work for them.
Given that she’s started her own company in the meantime that’s a right bonus...and a good sign too.

    Cheers
She pretty pragmatic about stuff, but it’s a relief she might get something started again, and her other business is growing, albeit slowly

On a slightly different subject but related to travel apps, I booked my flight back home in March with Expedia, the flight was with Air France. It got cancelled in March and rebooked for beginning May because of the virus. That was also cancelled and I called then to get a refund. This was confirmed and I was told I would get it within 4 weeks. 4 weeks passed and nothing came, so I called again. I was told due to the virus it could take up to 8 weeks. After 8 weeks, which is now 12 weeks from my first call to ask the refund, I was told there was nothing in the system about a refund, and they could log it now but it would take up to 12 weeks.

I played merry hell, and they said the refund had been requested from Air France, so it was in their hands and that is where the refund would come from. I called Air France and told that this was wrong and that they never received the money from Expedia and the refund would come from them.

It sounds to me Expedia is in the ****e financially, and are playing for time to be able to get the money together so they can refund me. I'm now taking this up further, but be careful if booking anything through Expedia.

Mike Ashley's going into the gym business, he's just bid £30m for the DW Fitness First group gyms.

Debenhams have now brought in Hilco, who they describe as 'turnaround specialists', but they're actually more accurately described as liquidation specialists.

If you paid with a credit card have you looked at credit card chargeback? It worked for my neighbour with a cancelled flight.

Great news DBT. I hope that your daughter charges an appropriate freelance rate.

Surprisingly John I had the opposite experience with Expedia, I had a flight booked with Easy Jet who gave me a flight voucher and a hotel booked with Expedia. I usually book the non refundable price as I've never had problems and I take Expedia members points. I cancelled the hotel late once lockdown had restricted travel and cancelled the flight and went on the online chat thing and explained this and even though I had booked the room non refundable and had written it off Expedia refunded me the full hotel price in my bank within 7 days. Just shows everyone seems to get a different experience!
