Mcauley was a weak defender who i've heard on many occasions called 'ShandyPants' and i think getting rid this summer was the best move we could of made, if he had of stayed we might still be stuck with a weak defence instead of the formidable pairing of Sonks-Collins with Ingridmumsson as back up.

    @field marshall
Can you please define 'real supporter'
I have spent a lot of money on ITFC in my life and just because I have found a good life away from Suffolk does not mean I am not a 'real supporter'. I was a regular at PR before moving to Amsterdam. I spent a lot on travelling to see matches whilst I was there, it's a bit too far now though, wouldn't you agree.
If you hadn't noticed many people on this board don't live in Suffolk but take the time to come on here and talk about our club, some even go as far as to moderate. Of course, none are 'real supporters' though so all opinions are of no value.
Sorry to rant but people like you piss me off when you try and claim the high ground 'cos you go every week at the moment. What would happen if you moved away, would you no longer be a 'real supporter'.

    San Diego.......

I class a supporter as someone who supports their team, whether it be going to all games, home games, away games, even buying merchandise from the club, through the good times and the bad, especially the bad, and we budgies have seen some bad times. Your money goes in some way to supporting the club.

Just because someone may live a bit out of travelling range, it doesn't mean they are any less passionate about their club.

That's my take on it anyway for what it's worth

I don't get to see town at all these days obviously, but I just as passionate about the club now than I was back in the good old days of the 80's and early 90's when I watched them religiously. The fact that I live on the other side of the world doesn't change the fact that I was born and bred in Ipswich and love the club, for those who still live in Suffolk and get lots of games, believe me it never goes away.

Sorry youre pissed off San Diego what I meant was this, there are people who claim to be staunch supporters of a club when there are good times but disappear as soon as the going gets tough. Its nothing what so ever to do with people who move away from an area and Im certainly not trying to claim any high ground. The point I was trying to make was this, when Arsenal came to play we had a full house, and when we played Leicester in the snow and both games on TV we had half that number. And by the way I know fans who travel from Sweden to be at Portman Road and away matches, as I said earlier I was referring to locally based people.

San Diego I agree with you. It really does annoy me, saying about true supporters, what does it even mean. Anyone can support the club, have an oppinion on the club and choose to support them when they want to, only through the good times if they so wish, that does not concern me at all.

I will always support Ipswich, I had a season ticket for years until I became a university student but still tried to go to as many games as I could under Magilton and to start with under Keane but for me when things were bad the last few years under Keane I just could not justify going to the games. The price of tickets is very expensive and to go and I just remember sitting there thinking I would rather be anywhere else than getting bored senseless watching this rubbish which has cost me £30 and my afternoon, so I've only been to a handful of games in the past year or so. I don't see this as being because I'm not a true supporter, I was just not happy with the direction the club was going in and was paying alot of money to be bored senseless. I remember in my first few years as a student I used to plan coming back home so that I could go to as many football games as I could but then when Keane was in charge I planned to come home so I would miss as many games as I could so I wasn't tempted to go!!!

    I agree with Fieldmarshall

"Where were you when we were ****!" The best response to those so called "fans" that turned up for our first game against Man Utd! In football as in life you have to learn to take the rough with the smooth. Genuine reasons are financial as the ticket prices are jsut way too expensive for the quality (or lack of) that we have been served up with over the last few years. I am luck enough to afford 3 season tickets for myself and family members but it has been a real chore admittedly just lately.

I thought it was obvious I meant fairly local people and certainly not others who dont even live in the country let alone county. Have it your way by all means SD, no offence intended.

No problem fieldmarshall, thanks for the explanation, I guess I saw 'armchair fan' and assumed you meant those of us who are at home listening on the radio/internet. I get up at 700am (earlier for a lunch time kick off) every saturday to listen to matches or risk downloading a trojan looking for streams to watch.
I've never hidden from anyone who I support when asked, in fact I'm proud to support my local team through thick and thin, even when people say 'who'. It's great being abroad, I've got so many people who have never heard of Ipswich interested in our results and it's cool to educate people on a team other than Man U or Chelsea.
Like oztown says, Ipswich born and bred and nothing will ever change or diminish my love for my club. In fact, the only reason I would move back is so I could go to matches again.
    No hard feelings mate.
