If they want to free up some time in the football calendar, how about the European competitions returning to the knockout status instead of a league, and apply the same rules as the FA Cup. First team out of the hat plays at home, and no second leg or replay. I am sure that the top teams in Europe would all go for this. Footnote. If any of this has actually been put forward, by the authorities, my apologies as I haven’t seen anything about it.
St B, are you having the audacity to suggest we should go as far as having the Champions League played with just... I don’t know, say the Champions of each league? Now there is an idea
Outrageous suggestion. Sometimes, taking a step backwards is a step forwards and a Champions League with just the champions, as it once was, would be just great. Unless, of course, we finish top 3/4 next season. Obviously.
Walking along, Singing his song, Walking in a McGeehan wonderland... There’s only one Cameron McGeehan! One Cameron McGeehan!...
Looking like both Barca and Bayern could do with a commanding CB. Step forward Hoedt and Vestergaard. Cracking game.
Why can't so many big teams defend?! It's so infuriating. Bayern are playing a ridiculously high line, and should have conceded more. But as bad as that has been, Barca's pissing about with it around their own area has been 10 times worse.
What a brilliant half of football - entertainment wise at least, some of the Barcelona play has been embarrassing.
Football genius, or not, Lionel Messi is one lazy fecker. I don’t know how often he pulls muscles, but the amount of time he spends standing still or just walking around, then breaking into a sprint, he must put a lot of strain on relatively cold muscles.
Not watching tonight but he's been prone to disappearing in matches for a couple of seasons now imo, second leg against Liverpool last season another good example.
I just realised that footie has been back for about 6 or 7 weeks now and I always watch it without fake crowd noise. What does everyone else do? Personally I want to hear it how it is (even without noise) as it feels more realistic?
I have been watching him in my peripheral vision and he offers so little no help to recover the ball or to move defenders around when Barca have it. He is so slow coming back from offside positions as well. Some of his crosses have been superb and should have been scored from, which could have put a completely different slant on the game, but I am sure that some of his teammates feel like giving him a kick up the backside.
