I know a few youngsters who's been affected by this Governments dealing with the current A'level/BTEC etc exams grades? Some of my daughters hard working friends and peers have been left distraught and have been refused places in their 1st choice University.

The despair this Government has caused is unforgivable! At least Scotland has done the right thing and reversed the discriminate algorithm that lowered the poorer post-coded youngsters exam results.

Here exam moderators have "ruined their results" - almost 40% of grades were downgraded in England after exams were cancelled due to coronavirus.

Nearly two in five (39.1%) of teachers' estimates for pupils were lowered by one grade or more by an assessor's algorithm, which amounts to around 280,000 entries.

These students impacted by this social inequality where it's assumed that pupils in disadvantaged, low-performing schools will do worse than others.

My daughter has worked hard (throughout her two years shes been getting 'starred distinctions' grades - she has fortunately gained a placed in here chosen University even though her mark has been lowered because of our post-code.

This unfair and unjust discrimination has to stop!

I don't understand why they couldn't just accept the teachers' grades.
    Who would suffer?
A few government statisticians would be put out.
But thousands of children wouldn't be suffering after months of worry.
Teachers will no doubt have erred on the positive side, but who cares?

A point I heard on the news last night, was yes if your school generally does badly in exams, then you will be marked down, EVEN IF, you did well in GCSE'S your individual score is not taken into account by the algorithm. So say you live in a less well off area, go to a poor performing school but you are bright and doing well, tough **** you are marked down.

Bonko and his old etonian chums are sticking it to the plebs!

****ing hell, a ruling being made that favours the rich and well off and discriminates against the poorer and less well off. I'm stunned.

Let's just be clear about something here. The algorithm that was used to decide the A-Level results has been an unmitigated balls up. The whole thing should have been done differently and its terrible that people sitting A Levels have been put through this.
But it was Ofqual that were responsible for it. Ofqual are non-ministerial government department. That means they are free of political interference. Which means the whole **** up had nothing to do with the Conservative party.

That's not the point, man <doh>

Some need to blame Boris for everything, otherwise their attempts to divide the U.K. in a time when we should all be pulling together, and debating after, won't work as well :emoticon-0148-yes:

I can’t understand what’s going on here on the bbc this morning he had the actual figures in front of him which say there is just under 8% more underprivileged kids going to uni this year than ever before and he asked Charlie State to show him his figures that says the opposite but funnily enough he didn’t have any so he looked a plank but this doesn’t fit in with what the labour lovies want to hear<doh>

A neighbour of a friend got A's and A*'s in her mocks and her centre assessed grades. Result? Two B's and a C because of where she ****ing lives, it's astronomically wrong what they have done but hardly surprising as it's the Tories

True but this is a Labour board <laugh>

Congratulating Scotland after they’ve failed the last generation of kids in Schools is hilarious. Add on the fact that Scotland took quite a few days to reverse the decision and the Conservatives are being granted none, it smacks of a cheap political attack and nothing else.

Sorry. I forgot for a moment then that I was from the North East. Voting Labour is obviously my duty. Even typing the word 'Conservative' is treason.

The exams thing has been a balls up but all this 'its the Tories oppressing the common man' stuff is tinfoil hats territory.

My son got A,B,D in his mock exams
He pulled his socks up and got A*,A*,B in the real exams - luckily that was last year as he would not have got his place at Uni with those mock results.

I feel for the kids affected by this but there is no magic solution, mock exams are not standard across the country and most teachers are going to give pupils higher expected grades.

If this isn't proof that there's a class war in this country I don't know what is.

And when the government refuse to level the playing field it will be further proof of a Facist privileged state.
