Did we pay that I thought there were a lot of clauses like appearances goals etc ! I am not sure we paid that much !
I think he will come good for us a lot of the times he has played for us as a sub or out of position! Good hard worker who doesnt complain and does what the gaffer tells him ! Mr Tevez take note!
I'd rather have him, than not have him. But don't really think he's ever been given a proper chance at playing often/or in his favoured position, so hard to say.
I think he is best when played at the tip of a diamond to back up the two strikers. He does not quite have the finish to be an out and out striker, but he does get into good positions and can put in a good cross. I think 500K was about right.
Not sure that playing him out wide is the best use of his talents - not the fastest of players! But a good player to have on the bench and £500K is fairly small change these days...
Not really played up front which is where he was a success for Walsall. Wear_yellow is right...Deeney lacks pace.
I think he's a decent player, but 500k was a lot to pay for a league 1 striker untested at this level. as watfordftw said i'd rather have him or not have him.
i think he should be played with Garner for a while (after Southampton! lol)...i think that might have been a better change than the goalkeeping change...
still done enough to be called up for England again! but maybe your right we could start deeney up front with garner , then bring on Marv with 30mins left!
Yep, that would do it. He's definitely good enough for the England call up..but he plays with little energy at the moment and doesn't chase the ball, some time on the bench might do him good...
I agree. Part of squad management is looking for excuses to take players out of the team for reasons that they will be relatively comfortable with. Giving Marv a mini-rest before an international match and assuring him that if he trains properly he'll be back within 2-3 games would be no bad thing. If we do struggle without him and he's the catalyst when he comes back, it will still have been the right decision, a la Buckley last year.
