Former Bristol City boss Lee Johnson considers coaching abroad as he studies new job offers "I’ve been approached, mainly from abroad" Former Bristol City boss Lee Johnson says that he has had job offers since leaving Ashton Gate. The 39-year-old was relieved from duty on 4 July after a 0-1 loss to Cardiff City, a game in which Johnson says that he knew the end was nigh if he had not gained a victory. ("I could smell it coming.") Johnson was speaking to Henry Winter of The Times and discussed in length his departure from BS3, but he also discussed what comes next. "[By] Day three [following his sacking], I was super-excited because I thought ‘What’s next?’ I’ve been approached, mainly from abroad, which shows the exposure now of the Championship," he told the broadsheet. "I definitely wouldn’t rule a foreign club out. My heart is in coaching in the Championship or as high as I can in England. "The Championship is the best league in the world: varied styles, varied budgets, varied tactics but such a big prize at the end of it. “Expectation is ridiculous for everybody. It’s relentless as a manager. "A lot of managers’ wives and families will tell you they tend to get what’s left of you. There is a guilt that comes attached with that but there’s also a guilt when you spend too much time with the family or friends and not doing your job. "Planning is important," explained Johnson in a long interview. The former Barnsley and Oldham Athletic boss now looks for his fourth job, having been sacked for the first time, a new experience for him. And having read through some 600 messages sent to the former head coach - one of those was from Bristol Live - the day after his departing of Ashton Gate, Johnson now looks forward to a new job elsewhere. Might one of those foreign offers appeal, with Championship clubs such as Bournemouth and Bristol City appointing internally (if Dean Holden is appointed as expected this coming week)? Johnson has talked up working abroad at some point before and could he again follow dad Gary's footsteps in heading to the continent? Though perhaps not the Latvia national post. Johnson met with super-agent Jorge Mendes last summer and he has enjoyed trips to Portugal in recent years, golfing with Scott Murray on at least one venture. Maybe Liga NOS is the right fit next for one of England's best young football coaches. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-bristol-city-boss-lee-4410037
All I can say is the best of luck to him! The fact that it says "mainly from abroad" would indicate to me that there are offer/s from the home countries!!
Nothing wrong with it at all mate , with the recent vacancies I thought he would have walked into quite a high profile job but like he said planning is important.
Problem is, on his CV LJ has achieved sod all. And I quite like the bloke, but he would definitely have to talk his way in if he was going to get a similarly high profile job.
But perversely, he has more on his CV (beating Premiership teams Crystal Palace and Man U in the LC in 2017 before a Semi Final defeat to Man C) than the Head Coach we've just appointed, who literally has diddly squat on his, but is, according to our enlightened leaders, the person to take us forward to the next level. Who said football was 'a funny old game' ?
Holden is what he is mate and we are where we are, I've accepted the new set and hope it works, I'm also fed up of high profile shenanigans of Aston and co doing due dilligence, it didn't impress anybody and they just made them selves look idiotic, I just want to get back to basic football and watch the development of the new regime. If it works I will congratulate the suits of course.
I think this whole situation played out over a quite ridiculous timescale has just worn supporters down Wiz. It's been handled poorly by those upstairs as we've come to expect, and that's being very polite. But we are where we are and nothing will change until Holden is either a success or gets the sack. It might be an interesting ride yet
Now Wiz there was you telling me that LJ was history, but there you go again just cannot forget the little man.
Nothing stopping me update the progress of the ' little man' people are interested, you must be forgetting it is a public forum, surely you get more interest from other aspects of our forum than just plugging away about Junior. A little bit of sarcasm, a gentle wum doesn't hurt anybody, if people don't like it, don't read it, ignore it. Have a read of the Twentyman Interview with Ashton.
.....sleeping dogs lie??..!! Rob … you say sod all … actually took a team to a Wembly final AND YOU CANT IGNORE THAT...also left the team in a position to get promotion to the championship ..no self respecting employer is going to ignore that.. and has averted relegation and finished in top 12 past 3 seasons... in a league they say is one of the most difficult in the world!!!!!
