Edit: just seen Gordon’s post, no, I’ve never been. In fact, I’ve never been to the lakes for nearly three years. Used to go over two or three times a year, but to get a decent hotel now, you’re looking at £300 for two nights. It’s nigh on as cheap to go abroad for a week. I used to love driving over the passes there, Hardknott and Wrynose in particular scare the life out of you, but the scenery is fantastic. Driving through Seatoller up to Honister is breathtaking.
We booked in there the last time in the restaurant and it was outstanding like, really good. We generally venture into town I’m **** with names of places though, frankly. I love just hiring a speedboat and gallivanting about on the lake, always feel like a new man when I have a couple days down there. Due one to be fair. We had one of the balcony rooms on the front last time down and I could have sat there forever quite happily.
Anyone into Indian food, Shahib's in Bowness was excellent the last time we were there a couple of years ago, been there a couple of times and really enjoyed it.
Yeah very expensive just priced it today your correct about £300 for two days We could of gone to kefalos for £ 362 for two for a week
Easily spend £300 night for a good room to be fair, I don’t compare a lakes break to a holiday though 2 totally different pots for me.
We should have been in Kefalonia now, but Mrs. Sombrero put her back out, and we had to cancel. Going on Monday now, cost me a couple of hundred extra, so not too bad.
Enjoy mate, you can’t go wrong with Greek islands, you really can’t. Great food, beautiful beaches, pretty little towns and Greece main attraction for me is the people, always so welcoming. Aye they have to be for tourism but it always feels so natural with them. You just can’t go wrong with Greece.
Aye, I always prefer the quieter spots though, nice beach and a few bars is enough. I prefer Portugal myself like but get overruled once a year.
I should go back to Crete only been once, in my youth did the Malia thing so obviously didn’t see It at its best. Loved it at the time of course, as you do!
Aye, we used to drive to Albufeira when I lived in Marbella for few nights, great golf was a cracking steakhouse called Las Palmeiras I think, I like that Portugal just feels a lot more relaxed than Spain. Nearly died a few times in the water like, you forget that the undercurrents are monster. Genuinely thought I was a goner one time running in pissed, fortunately got away with a bashed up ankle and some shame haha.
I’m sure will be decent mate, you couldn’t stay in business somewhere like that otherwise, word spreads too quickly. Actually trying to find a nice lodge with a hot tub that we can take the dog along to, struggling to find one that ticks the boxes if anyone’s any tips.
Gilpin Lodge has its own lake away from the hotel, very nice not sure about the dog situation though.
This would probs be closer to home mate, with the pooch. Gilpin is beautiful. Michelin starred scran the lot. Beaut.
We used this site for our break this year but struggled to get what we wanted, we eventually got a brilliant one down in Somerset https://www.dogfriendlycottages.co.uk/
Aye, been caught out once or twice myself, and me two daughters. Albufeira is a bit busy for me, we go a couple of times a year to Burgau next door to Praia de Luz. My idea of heaven.
