That’s to reduce alcohol consumption in Scotland isn’t it? Pricing based on units of alcohol? Off trade sales aren’t actually very profitable. Breweries still sell more volume and make most money from on trade sales, which has been a problem over the last few months.
Don’t disagree that people should vote with their feet / mouse finger. But surely the whole point of taxing them more is that they will pass it onto consumers isn’t it? Thus making them less unfairly competitive over traditional bricks and mortar businesses who have massively higher overheads through paying their taxes / rates / employee benefits etc. It’s to level the playing field a bit.
You don't really pay more than we do, the minimum is £1 for a full size can of 5% beer and £4.50 for a bottle of wine, who the hell pays less than that anyway?
Yes,it was designed to do just that, however, there's been little or no effect(figures have been kept quiet but I read somewhere that the effect had been negligible). My point is,for example, some ciders which used to retail at 19p per 'unit' now cost 50p per unit. Some companies which produced these ciders have cut staff due to a fall in sales and/or not being stocked any more up here(due to price),in addition to that,Martini(hardly the chosen option for alcoholics),rocketed in price?,10 packs of beers/ciders that were widely available and still are in England, sold for 3 for £20,are now £10 each!! My point is,I'm not an alcoholic though I like a drink at home yet I suffer at the hands of this nonsense?
Is this Scotland specific pricing still apply if you ordered online through a website like beer hunter, based in England - probably deliver to Scotland?
It It's a tonic wine full of caffeine, young uns drink it.When I was a kid it(and sanatogen) were in your grannies cupboard for medicinal purpose.
So how much is a bottle of Gin,Vodka,Whisky in Hull these days?Still £9.99?It's £13.13 for Gin and Vodka and £14 for Whisky up here now(minimum). And as I've explained, your 3 packs of beer for £20 out of Asda etc are now £10 each up here, very occasionally reduced to £9(could go as low as £8.80 if correct rules are applied)....So please explain how I don't pay any more than you do?
I used to work for an alcoholic drinks company about 20 years ago. We did some work in Scotland producing a competitor to Buckfast - I was shocked at how many off licences had full pallet displays of Buckfast. We spent a week north of the border selling about 3 containers (78 pallets) of tonic wine into independent retailers and off licenses across the central belt. The company I worked for also owned Sanatogen amongst many other great drinks products
My lad likes it...I think it's awful(tastes like benylin).I think there's more damage done with the bottles than the product and the A&E at my local hospital would confirm that...
Depends on the abv?Frosty Jack cider,3 litre bottle, was £2.85 now £11.25.Tesco own brand cider was £1.99 for 2 litres, now £5. I know for a fact you don't pay these prices...
