My wife used to work with a niece of The Cat. That Chelsea team was full of great players and characters - and they beat Leeds in the 1970 Cup Final, for which we should all be eternally grateful.

Tam,you prob.seen this goal.I played in the game.Who scored the goal.?
"I scored a goal at Turf Moor that people regard as my best ever" " I picked the ball up in my own half, beat Merrington,Talbot and John Angus outpaced 2 or 3 others before driving it past Adam Blacklaw,as he came out to block me off". It felt good and I knew it was a creditable individual effort but was taken aback how excited eveyone became, people even remember it 40 years later.

Tam the same guy wrote this as well.
My fellow reserve team-mate John Boyle got picked against Villa and scored the winner as well so he was experiencing the same intensity of emotion as I was as we were both 18. He was already displaying an eye for the ladies and his strike rate was pretty damn good, in fact "Boylers" was dating beauty contest winners when George Best was still tucked up in bed at Mrs Fullaway,s house in Manchester reading The Dandy.:biggrin:

Yes it is exciting John. Amanda is being pulled in many directions though. Her Arabian stallion has qualified for the World Championships in Paris, our latest foal (now nearly 14mths old) needs to be prepared for in hand showing, she has a pony and 2 horses to be produced for sale for clients and we have more coming in November. Luckily our own bred (super) stallion is over in the UK now with one of the top show jumpers in the World - hopefully he will go far.

But I have to admit, for me personally, the racehorse is the biggest thrill. Since I was a kid I always wanted a racehorse (OK it's my daughter's and son's) and now we have one. Don't recall wishing it would get to a racecourse so I guess I can say ambition achieved.

Lindentree, I remember Peter Houseman scoring a great goal in the Cup at Turf Moor; also Osgood as well in his early days. Which one is it?
Do you recall when Burnley fielded their Central League team against Chelsea at Turf Moor (prior to European Cup) and got fined (£1000 I think)? What a great game-ended 4-4!
Burnley had a great Reserve Team in those days.

    Tam it was Peter O.
Sad but those two are sadly not with us anymore
Reserve teams were nearly always quite good. Remember pre-season when the Probs played against the Possibles.
He was a good friend of mine, JimmyThompson, he played at Chelsea before going to Burnley.

    Good morning, LT.
Yes, I remember Jim Thompson. I went to Hillsborough in '74 to watch him and Burnley play Newcastle in the FA Cup Semi-Final. Without doubt the biggest disappointment in my 'football life!'
Burnley played them off the park in the first half- but couldn't score. I said to my mates before the game that all Burnley had to do was stop Malcolm MacDonald- and they'd win. But they didn't stop him- he had two through balls to chase and scored them both. For his second, our centre half, Colin Waldron, jumped on Mac's back but it didn't matter. Mac shook him off like a little monkey and banged it in.
I was nearly in tears as I left the ground- heartbreaking!
