Great deal for Saints this - I really do think Spurs have over paid but in their eyes; they got their man. Poor old Everton though
I hope this is correct - great business if so. No risk associated with the incoming player, and we won`t have PEH hanging around on big wages, then going for nothing next year. PEH won`t even have to get used to a new club song since spuds cringingly copied ours.
Like everyone else I would be highly impressed if we get £25 million for Hojberg. If we pay £12 million for KWP and £10.9 million for Salisu we have strengthened the defence and are more than£2 millionin credit.
If Reed goes for the purported £8m that would be £11m, wonder how much McKinnie is being touted for? We might have some extra coming in if Vester and Hoedt make permanent moves away.
If only we could sell all those' duds' we have, even if making big 'losses' on them, it would still add up to being enough to replace PEH.
Can't lie, I'm actually pretty Chuffed. No problems with PEH, he seems like a pretty decent guy, and I wish him well. I don't see that he has improved enough to warrant that price personally, and KWP has been very good for us and filled a big hole. I think it will be easier to replace PEH than find a decent right back, and if the Mckinnie rumours have any truth to them, the board have smashed it.
We have depth at CM albeit inexperienced, Slattery could come back into the fold and Alfie Jones has been playing DM at Gillingham even if we don't buy one but I fully expect a replacement being signed this window.
The only thing with PEH is that he still has a lot of potential to improve. If he can improve his passing and positioning, he will be a hell of a player. I don't think we saw him as a finished article. Whether mourihno will improve him, we will see...
I still think he’s a good player. He’s had a bit of a poor season and a bit for us, but still offers something. It’s right he goes, yet I’ll watch with interest if he sinks or swims next.
He is the same age as Ward-Prowse. Look at the last couple of seasons and JWP has improved hugely whereas as Hojbjerg has stayed at the same level. I can't see PEH suddenly developing his passing at 25 - although in fairness to Spurs i don't think they are buying him for his passing. They will just want him to sit and win the ball back whilst protecting the defence.
On Salisu, I wonder if it has not been announced due to quarantine. He could be here, signed up and just isolating in quarantine so that we can do a proper media announcement with photos, short holding, badge kissing and clasping Ralph’s hands like he’s just found his Father Christmas ...
The Express said £18m when they broke the story last week: https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...ston-McKennie-Pierre-Emile-Hojbjerg-Tottenham
PEH is a decent player, but I think he’ll fit in more with Mourinho’s tactics, than he would with the way Ralph is progressing Southampton. We saw through the restart, that we were more potent with an attack minded RB, which is more important to tie down over a midfielder who loves possession and pass completion. Sell Reed to Fulham, bring in a new CDM to replace PEH, but with more strings to his bow, and would be a pretty decent transfer window.
