Right, I didn’t know anything about it but have since read it was tonnes of ammonium sulphate stored and maybe forgotten about? Apparently can be used as fertiliser or for explosives I read, if what I read is true the substance will not ignite under 210C? Very sad for everyone caught up in it.It's an accident I believe

The fireworks were burning for a while before the explosion. Surely someone knew what was next door and they could have evacuated?

They were just talking about the amount being held with a chemical weapons expert, and he said to put it to scale, if this quantity of Ammonium Nitrate and gone off in Manchester or London, it would completely flatten the whole of those Cities.

Agree an exaggeration but to think it could have been so much worse, if the storage had not been on a waters edge, which meant that buildings only took a certain circumference of the blast. so say fifty percent, maybe more. Buildings affected were as far as 2 miles out, that affected 778,000 people, hence I assume why 300,000 as you say are homeless. IF it stretched out just one more mile (3 miles), it would have affected an additional 1 million people! I really don't think people can get a true picture on the scale of this from a TV screen. Thankfully the density of population was only 116,000 people within the first mile, the next mile you can quintuple that figure. Some of the populated tower blocks, had great big holes punched in them by the blast and cars look like they've been tossed about like dinky toys.
