    To be quite honest Rod I have been watching city since a nipper with my Dad bless him.Then watched those years in the top division.Then watched them in my twenties with @squashier who is on here and about 10 other lads,Minibus full everywhere we went great days out and nights.Then when my children were born from they age of five they were regulars at the gate.
    Had STs for 22 consecutive years,but the last two years have been piss poor.
    LJ was finally removed and Lansdown and Ashton said they were after a proven guy to take them to the next level.
    5 weeks later we are told it Holdens job the names that were mentioned for one reason or another don’t seem to want to come in under this regime.
    For me the football club will have gone backwards in employing LJs assistant.
    SL and his crew i can safely say we have fallen out of love with our football club the one we have followed all over the country.
    Bristol Sport is not for us.

    It's a great shame that so many will feel that, yet again, because if the club followed up it's wise words with positive actions then things could have been so different. Unfortunately it looks like Bristol City will lose support over what is deemed to be the next chosen one, and I think there is a line in the sand that SL is not prepared to cross and I'm not so sure that it's about the money but rather the control. When I started watching the play-offs I was so pleased to see many ex players from City in the mix and Joe's performance today just highlighted the top players at our club that all chose to leave, most with full validation.

    It will be interesting to see where we go from here and who really knows?

    If it Dean then so be it he will get my backing im not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. Would he be my first choice no but looking at the two teams in the playoff final came through the club there's nothing to say it couldn't be same with us. No matter who you get in doesn't guarantee success or alternatively failure.

    In fairness mate, you stuck to your guns with keeping LJ. So with DH being his number 2 and on board with everything that you admired in LJ then you should be happy. That way he can see through what you believed in with LJ.

    I see where you're coming from with this ROD, but I'm sure DH has his own ways and will implement them.. I hope so, because what would have been the point of booting LJ..
    My words have always been, who was out there that was available that would have wanted to come here? I had fingers crossed that we would have been looking at a coach to progress on..I might be wrong, DH might do the business......but just seems a bit Dej-vu....yet again..

    This is an interesting read from a City fan on OTIB.

    'I’ve been a long time reader of this forum, and a City supporter since my Dad and Grandad took me to my first game in 1984-85 (City 2-1 Wigan Ath) and I have never felt as disillusioned as I do with the club as I do right now, and I also didn’t think I would ever sign up and post here.

    My reasons are this: I have seen and experienced mixed times as a City fan, as many of my age will, however through my 35 years as a fan I don’t think we have ever been as well placed as we are now to push on.

    I understand that we may never reach the highs of the late 70’s (these are the stories from the old man), or the 89-90 side of Taylor, Turner and Shelts, and Smudge and Gav (my fave side) ...... and in turn thankfully the lows of the early 80’s (vague memories) and I appreciate the game has changed, but I cannot however understand or accept the current set of circumstances surrounding the Managerial/Head Coach appointment.

    My opinion, and it’s worth nothing here, other then my 35 years supporting City and a slightly better than average amateur football career and knowledge is this:

    Whoever gets this job (and I think many have probably turned it down) takes it on the basis of working in a structure within a club that is unique, unprecedented and bizarre, and that is why we are where we are;

    City will also cite the unusual circumstances around finances in the current world climate as a justification for the appointment although other clubs have not and will not;

    The potential new Head Coach/Manager will be expected to work with an unfamiliar (and arguably under-performing/untested) backroom staff without being able to bring their own guys in;

    The “new” guy will have to work with a CEO who may be impressive (and he certainly is in certain corporate environments) but also all-encompassing, over-bearing and acutely aware of the fragility of his own position and protecting that; and let’s be honest, has at least a 50/50 a sign-off on transfers;

    Coaching badges, knowing the players, youth confidante etc means nothing in this scenario, it’s hierarchy awareness that counts;

    So, as unpopular as it is, City may be on the verge of making possibly the most dissatisfying and underwhelming appointment of my lifetime? Why? Not because Dean Holden couldn’t do the job, if (and when) he is appointed he may be brilliant success, and I’ll wish him well, but, because, he’s not what was suggested, sign-posted, intimated or promised. It’s a customer/consumer world and trust is king. People have long memories and the words of Steve Lansdown and also the now diluted patter of Mark Ashton are on record re: proven guys/next level etc....

    If it is Holden, how can that justifiably be a step forward from the previous regime, that he was not just a bit-player In, but a major part?;

    Do I think this is unexpected? Nope. We have a habit of doing the same thing when we are in touching distance of the top level. Never more so than now.

    The Lansdown era will perhaps be the period of time that will be remembered by City owing him so much and not being able to do without the guy, but also being the man who couldn’t push us on despite his backing and therefore holding us back more than ever.

    Anyway I may make 5 posts before I’ve had enough but that’s my bit!'

    Can't disagree with any of this.
    There will be a hell of a lot of upset fans if this comes to pass and it will harm overall support and any goodwill towards the board.
    It's very sad when we have the infrastructure, a very decent fan base that could easily exceed 30k per home game in the top flight, and that horrible word (and so very much of it) 'potential' which should be our middle name. The 6th biggest city in the country, well connected to the rest of the UK by the motorway system, railways, and an airport (or sorts!), but we act more and more like a sullen provincial backwater that doesn't want qualified outsiders to challenge the thinking of those at the top and which our growing and unwanted reputation of being incapable, or possibly unwilling, to appoint staff in key positions at key times that will stand a chance of bringing the club any success in the future.
    I've never liked Lansdown and I make no secret of it. I do appreciate his money and the stadium revamp and all the rest of it, but IMHO he is yet again seriously holding the football club back if he allows Dean Holden to be installed as our Manager.
    And personally I've always thought Lansdown is more than happy to see us drifting between the Championship and L1.

    I simply can't believe they sack Junior and are likely to replace him with Holden, it's a massive backward and retrograde step, we will be laughing stocks of the Championship, his total managerial career consists of 11 games with Oldham as manager and 9 as caretaker manager with Oldham and Bristol City combined.

    Wonderful.

    If it comes to pass that Holden gets appointed, then to all those that wanted 'LJ Out' and hammered him on here from Day 1. I hope you're all happy!! Be careful what you wish for!!

    Yeah I like that post Redprintt. It just screams to me of inconsistency. Why spend £45m rebuilding Ashton Gate, (presumably) multiple millions on a new training ground, tens of millions on new players, only to get the cheap option of a manager to drive it all? When you're spending all that, what's wrong with £1m-£2m a year on someone who has proven that they know how to make the best use of it?

    They're not hysterics but individuals on their football forum expressing, discussing and giving their opinions about developments in their own football teams, they are all most welcome and thank goodness they are participating.

    They, you are most welcome at all times and I hope you all continue to discuss and debate, this is the place to do it.

    Are you saying this with a straight face? Its not the board that will make this club a laughing stock its the fans who are going into meltdown about someone we've not even appointed yet
