One way of looking at it I suppose. But, which ever way you dress it up, its a bribe to make the problem go away. That's if it's true of course, and we'd never know anyway as the businessman has probably been chopped up into bits by now.
Not a bribe a bribe is something totally different.. They were accused of not doing enough to combat piracy.. They were asked to respond positively, so they offered to buy their own rights for KSA..
If true, it seems they may have suggested to the PL tear the current contract up and we'll give you a sum of money. A bribe and naive. We'll just have to disagreeh on this one, besides it may not even be true.
Easier to understand why it took the PL about 9 months to replace Scudamore. It takes a very special kind of person to knowingly step into that murky, corrupt bullshit. Step forward mr masters. Take a bow son.
Only the rights for their country were already owned by someone else and under contract for another 2 years. So the only people who they could have agreed this with is BeIN. What they should have done is just stop acting like ****s over it and allowed BeIN to sell subscriptions in SA. Simple really.
I do agree here. the 17 mill hasn’t moved yet apparently as the deal isn’t officially off as the PL haven’t been notified.
He must actually be thick as ****. Fifa and uefa have been battered with scandals and it’s only a matter of time before the journos get stuck into digging on national associations... yet he leaves himself so exposed to various accusations like this.
There have been no surprises and neither will this be. The PL will now be going back to it’s member clubs and asking “do we really have to keep refusing?”.
If BeIN didn’t want to sell the rights they legally own then that is their choice, simple as. The Saudis should have just allowed them access, then combined with the measures they’d taken on piracy then the issue has gone away. But they chose not to, due to their beef with Qatar. Obviously valuing that ongoing beef more than buying a controlling interest in the Toon. Then they’ve walked away. It is what it is.
