Or players who had taken a good living from this club for a considerable time thinking at the most crucial time of the season. 'Shall I risk getting injured whilst playing for the club who have paid my wages in full even when I have had considerable time off injured......? Nah, **** em, I'm off' The only loyalty at this club and probably every club in the land is on the terraces, those fans who stick with the club through thick and thin and the ones who are considered last.
Don't think Irvine did anything to contravene his contract of employment. Employers asking workers to work for nowt again.
It’s interesting though, if I’ve got this right, say he had a big money move lined up and was coming to the end of his contract and had refused to sign a new one with us. We had no year option say. And there was no Covid to stop the season. How motivated to play would he have been? Or would he have feigned injury and sat it out. I remember Aaron Ramsey let his contract run down at arsenal but still played to the end didn’t he? Many others do it too. If I’m reading this wrong please let me know?! So Covid gave him and lichaj an easy way out? Players who we had to release after relegation from the pl, mcshane rosenoir etc still continued to put it in for us knowing the same thing. maybe him and lichaj took the smart move but it doesn’t sit right with me. Don’t talk about team mates and a bond and walk out. See it through
He was happy to play until the end of his contract, but we decided not to play him if he wouldn't agree to sign for an additional month knowing he was being released. Irvine was a bit **** sometimes, but there was never a lack of effort from him, same with Lichaj.
Is this how it was... 1. He was happy to play to end-June, risking injury, knowing he was being released. 2. He wouldn't sign for an additional month, knowing he was being released, because he didn't want to risk injury. I assume he'd have been paid for the additional month. If I've got that right then I think Irvine has been a bit precious.
The contracts were up on June 30th but because the season had been suspended since March ( from which they still picked up their wages) it started again, as we all know and the players were asked to sign another short term contract to see out ( and help the club/team/ manager etc) the remaining few games which were crucial to the club. But they chose not too in case they picked up an injury which might hamper their chances of signing for another club. Others players signed it and were still released. In my eyes they jumped ship when we needed them the most.
I'm gonna try this the next time I **** off a company to go to another one... Erm,'here's my weeks notice but as you can see,I've attached some conditions for your perusal,'...'If anything should happen to me during my final weeks employment,I'd like you to extend my contract by the period of 12 months,24 months,36 months(tick applicable box)'.I think it's a great idea'.I'm not sure it'll find it's way into the employment rights act 1996 but it's worth a shot?
The year is 2020 and we're still having the same debates about players who've left, where the same few posters want to blame the (ex) players because it always has to be their fault. Hell of a coincidence that our club keeps on having this problem with terribly disloyal players isn't it...

Huh? He offered to play until the end of his contract, we chose not to play him. He wasn’t offered another one, of any description, so chose not to play after he was out of contract.
I don't get why you think backing the owners is an important part of supporting the club. They're not the club. If anything you play the club down by accepting that this is as good as we can ever hope for, just like Ehab wants us all to. I think we should demand better from those running the club. I think it's embarrassing that we're constantly the one club having this problem with contracts and it's obviously been a big hindrance to success on the pitch, turning over a new squad every summer. None of that is self-loathing because again, the Allams aren't the club. They just continue to infest it. The self-loathing is accepting things as they are currently and shouting down anyone who wants better.

As I understand it he was offered a 'contract' to play out July, which he declined on the grounds that he might get injured.
I think we are ignoring the fact he wasn't offered any money to play.... So if your boss said, we want you to leave, I know you are leaving but we want you to stay an extra month but we won't pay you any extra to do this. In that time you may get an injury that will never see you work again in this industry and have to retire. This may have a huge impact on your family and children, but despite this we want you to do it for free. It's very easy to paint Irvine as the villain when you present the facts completely wrong.
