I don't think they will be much different, I just think there will be less of them
It depends how you define reduced fee in the current climate. There's an opportunity to recalibrate the transfer system and set new value for money transfers which will be a good thing. Players have always been sold on what the buyer is prepared to pay and that won't change.

Yeah. He was over-zealous - didn't know when to commit and when to hold back. Still, his heart was in it and I won't slag off anyone who does their best, even if it's not quite the level we need.

I can't really gauge this one. On the one hand we are astute , as you say, but on the other hand we are losing at least three players ( up till now) who have been used as back ups, apart from Clyne who goodness knows what happened to him, and will need replacing.
I don't think Klopp likes the idea or term 'back up ' as it implies second rate, so he will be looking for players who are willing to be rotated but who are nonetheless good enough and versatile enough to improve the team and have the ability to play 90 minutes whenever it's necessary.
So Lallana's departure for instance might be addressed by the signing of Thiago for a reported £30m or so. We won't be spending huge money
but will be replacing a creative midfielder with another (hopefully). I don't see us spending £60m or £70m on a player, partly because we don't need to.
That sort of thinking can be the start of decline. If the right player is available you get him regardless of how good the players you have are, they will not always be that good or could get injured.

Wouldn’t mind us picking up Willian on a free to go with Thiago for circa 20m. Would add good depth, experience and creativity in areas we are lacking.

Unlike last summer when, if I'm remembering correctly, we didn't lose any players, we need to make some signings this window just to have enough to compete. We've lacked a creative mid. since Gerrard left so Thiago would be a great signing. We need a Lovren replacement and LB cover. I don't think we will spend a lot. I also can't see any players we are coveting like when we needed a goalie and were being linked to all the top end ones.
Didn't we lose Can or was that the season before? Klavan? Studge? Moreno definitely went.

I'd like us to sign a forward with goals in him, as well as in all those areas, one to properly compete with the main three, to push and challenge them. I don't think Origi is really that much of a challenge to them and Minamino, whilst I think he was a sound buy and will become better, doesn't have the same stature. And as you say I don't want us to put any players on pedestals or start signing 'names' all of a sudden. We should continue to do what we've been doing but add appropriately in the areas that need reinforcement so we have proper depth
