Never particular like these topics, too many variations and it's not a level playing field either; football standards including diets are much much higher now days.

For example, Robbie Fowler was phenomenal in the nineties but probably wouldn't make it nowadays because much more is expected of a forward. Just my opinion, of course.

difficult to compare the FB's as the present pair are so forward thinking but others to consider
    Neal
Finnan - much under rated imo
Lawler - though my memories of him are quire vague.

And the player that was taken off at half time for Hamann during 2005, and nobody noticed he'd gone off.

Finnan was a decent solid player, but nothing special

where as i thought Finnan was a really good solid player who went unnoticed as he didn't do spectacular stuff just the things you wanted from a FB to a high standard .

My biggest memory of Finnan was his inability to take a quick throw in.

Although I'm not entirely sure I agree with their choice on merit, I'm chuffed for him. He's taken a lot of stick (mostly undeserved imo) and come through it.

feel like this one wasn’t voted purely in footballing terms given rashford finished 3rd.

Hendo for his work around coronavirus fund He was instrumental at sorting out? And rashford for his kids school meal work?

if you look at other nominations, no Salah, no mane.. but Jonny Evans and aaron win bisaka we’re nominated. So not sure this thing really means an awful lot.

Different eras bring different challenges, I find it impossible to pick one over others everything considered. Other decent FB's we've had.......Arbeloa was an
excellent defensive FB but wouldn't fit into the current side at all <laugh>.........Fabio Aurelio (underrated and scorer of great goals <whistle> )............ has Steve Nicol
had a mention? <yikes>............there will be others, Beglin...Rob Jones.....Babell (sp?).....

Liverpool: Departing Adam Lallana pays emotional tribute to Jordan Henderson.
"selfless" close friend, team-mate and captain Jordan Henderson.
Lallana, 32, is set to leave Anfield when his contract expires on July 31.
"Being beside him lifting the Premier League trophy, nothing makes me happier," a tearful Lallana said about fellow England midfielder Henderson.

Lallana has won the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup during six years with the Reds.
However, the former Southampton player's spell has also been interrupted by a series of injuries, and it is 30-year-old Henderson - who Liverpool signed in 2011 - he credits for helping him get through tough moments.
"Having been with Jordan throughout the whole journey, I've been lucky enough to be alongside him when he had his dark moments - and he's also been alongside me in my dark moments, injuries," Lallana told the Liverpool club website.
Henderson was named Football Writers' Association Men's Footballer of the Year on Friday, in part because of his role leading a player initiative to donate funds to disadvantaged people during the coronavirus pandemic.
Lallana, who also won this season's Uefa Super Cup with Liverpool, also praised his captain's willingness to "take responsibility" for a poor results on the field.
"We drew 3-3 away to Sevilla [in the Champions League in November 2017] after being 3-0 up. It felt like a defeat and Jordan took full responsibility" Lallana recalls.
"Butthat just epitomises his selflessness. That's not in the good moments, that's the bad moments.
"He deserves to be captain of Liverpool holding the four trophies in one season more than anyone else, and no-one can take that away from him ever."
