Sadly, I'm not sure what he can do about it though - the Tories made full use of their majority.
Whilst I'm not advocating civil disobedience, the only solution will probably have to come from the majority of voters who didn't vote for this - and that may well be what happens.
BoJo has planned a little jaunt up here - although, like last time, I doubt he'll brave any public appearances - I suspect there will be a 'warm' welcome awaiting him if he pokes his nose out the door.

I think the right wing media looking for a way to crit BoJo might welcome him stepping up a bit... he is an accepted figure by the establishment.... so that would give him some leverage......

Further evidence that the government is not looking after the people it was elected to serve.

Russian influence in the UK is the new normal. Successive governments have welcomed the oligarchs and their money with open arms, providing them with a means of recycling illicit finance through the London ‘laundromat’, and connections at the highest levels with access to UK companies and political figures.

This has led to a growth industry of ‘enablers’ including lawyers, accountants, and estate agents who are – wittingly or unwittingly – de facto agents of the Russian state.

It clearly demonstrates the inherent tension between the government’s prosperity agenda and the need to protect national security. While we cannot now shut the stable door, greater powers and transparency are needed urgently.

UK is clearly a target for Russian disinformation.

"Not going to investigate brexit interference..."

Hmmmm, loosely translated as we're not going to answer the really awkward questions...

Produced as not for profit - but does that stop governments charging?
There are two governments in the world I don't trust not to miss the chance to profit from this - UK and USA.

I am sure that there will be a fantastic welcome for Johnson as he heads north of the border today. There can be little doubt that the population in Scotland will wish to line the streets with their Chinese made Union Flags to thank him for his calm and reassured way of dealing with the coronavirus. He seems so clear and concise when compared to the First Minister, so it is likely that she will wish to garner some advice on presentation and how to answer questions from the media. So as well as it being useful to guide the Scottish Government, it will also be a grand opportunity for the whole of the UK to see the pictures of this triumphal visit, rather like Charles de Gaulle's entry into Paris after WWII.

Most will stay away due to Covid guidelines on public gatherings - not that anyone really knows his itinery anyway. He's currently somewhere in Orkney - Orcadians booed his car as it drove past them earlier, but none knew where it was going. He is rumoured to be visiting RAF Kinloss this afternoon - not exactly a major population centre, and not open to the public anyway - the base from which, rumour has it, Typhoon jets were scrambled this morning to monitor a suspected Russian agent crossing the Pentland Firth to Orkney...;)

The general consensus here is that he's on the first leg of his #FarewellBorisTour - which is doubling up as promo tour for his new book...

Update from Orkney: A spokesperson for the protest group awaiting what was thought to be his first port of call in Stromness said that police told her that his itinery was changed earlier in the day to avoid any hassle from protestors. Apparently, his motorcade also decided to take a 'back route' - and got lost. <laugh>

Maybe I could try it out on our empty aircraft carrier and if successful order half a dozen to frighten China.

With the news that Dyson are shedding 600 jobs in the UK because of the coronavirus, we can see just the early stages of a shrinking service sector as they do not manufacture in the UK anymore. With the footfall in the High Street falling off a cliff this is really going to hurt. On the same day we learn that it is unlikely that we will see a trade deal with either the EU or the USA this year. It is difficult to see how the country is going to dig itself out of this rather large hole.

A comment on BoJo's visit to nearby Fochabers from Tory MP Douglas Ross - known in these parts as Red Card Ross as he spends more time as a linesman at football than he does as an MP:

"Boris Johnson was cheered and waved by Scots"
"...he was on a factory visit with me at Baxters where was cheered and waved by employees and spoke to local people and engaged with them."

Only the truth was something different:

    *No masks
    *No social distancing
    *No crowds of locals
*No employees to cheer or wave as the factory is currently closed - it hasn't reopened after lockdown yet.

    baxters.jpg

The truth is that the owners of Baxters are Tory party donors - making the factory one of the only places in this area that Tory MPs visit regularly, mainly because the site can be easily blocked off from the public.

Govt now saying that self-administered #COVID19 testing is being abandoned. As expected most people couldn’t swab themselves effectively & most returned tests were unusable. Another expensive and predictable failure - like the so-called track and trace app that was also a fiasco.
