Not so much the final score but the determination not to throw it away . The team worked like dogs tonight to keep that lead. KUDOS to them all.
I don't care if we win playing beautifully, ugly, desperately, assured, fairly, dirty, nervously, confidently etc etc. A win is a win and we battled for that result tonight
LOL your still pushing that one? They defended very well that night and just about everyone on earth (except you) recognised that.
Indeed. Solid enough performance but the result as always is the most important thing. Song and Metersacker had really good games. AOC took his goal well and had a good link up with Sagna for the first half but he faded in the 2nd. But that is to be expected from a kid. Arteta worked really hard for the entire game but as of yet we have not seen his pure creative side yet. Chamakh,Rosicky and Arshavin where all a bit underwhemling but they have not had much game time so you can't expect them to be in top form i suppose. Anyway, now we have the NL derby to look forward too. Hope Gervinho,Kos and Theo are all fit and ready.
Admittedly I did not see their game tonight but I have never heard of a good defensive performance conceding 3 goals against a team of the standard of Marseille.
How the Olympiakos player waltzed in unchallenged for that header is beyond me. WTF was Mertesacker doing so far out of position, I thought he was a CB not a LB/LM !! A win is a win, we needed that, we are still not compact enough, I don't know what is so difficult about being compact, maybe Wenger is trying a different breed of defence that I have never heard of.
well played arsenal, good win, 18year old scoring, it all helps raise morale and confidence ready for the reds 2-0 win at spurs on sunday
If we don't win 0-2 at Spurs on Sunday, then you will have jinxed it and we will have to ban you from our board
What's up with Chamak, he looks hopeless in front of goal and is way off the required standard for a CL footballer never mind the EPL, did anyone notice in first half cross came in a smacked him right in the face when it was begging to be headed in if he was half awake!! what was the point in bringing in Park then when a game comes up to give him a run he's left on the bench bringing in RVP who would have been better served by being rested througout. Thought our substitute decisions were very poor, Arteta playing 90 mins when he's a pivotal player right now also being poor, the guy is needed fresher for Sunday but at least we have Ramsey back.
Im worried that sagna improves on last nites performance. He was terrible. Most of the threats came by beating him, wether or not it was oxocube in front of him. Hope he improves for sunday. Very surprised by him. Still in my fantasy team.
I read that Marseille were incredibly lucky to win, let alone 3-0 and Dortmund battered them. Quite how you can batter someone and lose 3-0 is beyond me but that's what I heard. Any-whoodly-doodle, my winning streak at chez Emirates continues. 3 for 3 this season (admittedly against 'weak' opposition) and never have I seen us lose there. I shall be seriously be considering changing my name to Jammy Jammerson III (I don't know if there were 2 others, I just rather like the idea of being the third of something). Game-wise I thought there were some real positives. Yes it's easy to fall into the media trap and focus on the Olympiakos chances but they carefully glossed over the glorious opportunites we created (and admittedly fooked up - oh Chamakh!). They also kindly forgot to mention the heavily weakened/rotated squad we had out. Vermaelen, Wilshere, Gervinho, Walcott would all walk straight into the starting line-up. I can't underestimate what a difference having TV in as CB alongside Mertesacker would have made. Even Koscielny would have been a massive improvement. I don't disparage Song as CB but he's a defensive midfielder and I thought we missed him there last night. Pingpong again in the first half went missing with his positional play. It's so frustrating as when he's in the right place he's awesome! That one change would have shorn up the midfield somewhat and the panic levels would have been reduced tenfold. Through in the pace and trickey of Gervinho/Walcott and I believe we'd have ripped Olympiakos a new hole. Was this mentioned though? Was it bollocks. Anyway, a far better second half performance in terms of defending and determination and a vital 3 points (+ a bit of confidence). Naturally I'm as worried as the next man about our squad depth but let's not ignore the positives. Fookin' disco.
