i wonder whats happened to last seasons top scorer doesnt seem to even make the bench these days, have we seen the end of him in a blues shirt ?
i hope not, scott is a better striker than both benyon and strevens in my opinion. i think he may appear back into the squad if/when we swap backl to 4-4-2 against the poorer teams
I like Rendell, but he hasn't been good enough so far this season. Whether this is down to him or the service to him I don't know, but the recent switch to a lone striker in Beavon has worked. The problem for Rendell is that he is not suited to playing up top on his own as he's a finisher, not a worker like Beaver or Strevens. Like Jose says, if Waddock decides to go back to 4-4-2 then we'll see more of Rendell again. With only having 5 subs now, I doubt we'll see him in the squad too often if we stay 4-5-1 and that could eventually lead to him moving on. I hope not as I think he still has plenty to offer us. But you have to stick with what works.
Wandermagic I agree with everything you say there - apart from your first sentence. Ruth's only had five league appearances, 3 as sub, and i don't think that's enough to draw a conclusion on whether he's been good enough or not. Until the Sheff Utd game there were probably only 2 or 3 players who had been good enough so far this season - so why Ruth's relegated out of the squad in favour of Strevs and Benyon seems a bit odd to me, especially as he was top scorer last season. I take on board what you are saying that the 451 formation doesn't suit him and you're right, but he should still be on the bench compared to the likes of Benyon who has yet to score in the league at all for us ever! I think there could be more to it than that, maybe there's been a falling out or a behind the scenes issue. At least he's not a prima donna like the twat that is Carlos Tevez!
I know what you're saying Jock, Rendell's goalscoring record stands up much better than Strevens or Benyon for us. I didn't mean to just pick out Rendell as not being good enough this season as you're right about plenty of other players not playing well either up to the Sheff Utd game. But Rendell isn't as mobile as Strevens and Benyon, in that it's not in his game to chase after a long through ball or hassle defenders. That's not a criticism, he just has other strengths such as being the most natural goalscorer in the squad. But that's how Waddock has the team set up at the moment and it's working. Bringing Rendell off the bench in either of the last 2 games wouldn't have worked with the system we were playing, so it made sense him not being on the bench as we needed cover elsewhere to be available. As always in football, things change and Rendell will get his chance again. I still believe he can do a good job for us. As for Tevez, he completely sums up all that is wrong with top level football and why following a football league club is so much more fulfilling!
that does seem to ring a bell, it was something like that jermaine did. he always thought he was better than he was, and has hardly ever stayed at a club for his contacted length. this didnt surprise me of jermaine and it doesnt surprise me of tevez, a player i used to hugely admire
