Rangers Exclusive: Manager tells friends he’s set to be appointed by English club Chris Hughton is confident of landing the Bristol City job amid speculation the club are targeting Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, Football Insider has learned. The Championship outfit are searching for a new manager after sacking Lee Johnson two weekends ago. A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Hughton has told friends he expects to be appointed the new City manager after holding recent talks The 61-year-old has also been linked with manager-less Birmingham City and potentially even Fulham if they fail to get promoted. Nevertheless, the former Brighton, Norwich City, Birmingham City and Newcastle United manager has been linked up for the Bristol City post and has an offer on the table. This comes amid an Express report that the club’s billionaire City owner Steve Lansdown is eager to lure Gerrard from Glasgow to spearhead his side’s promotion pursuit next season. The Liverpool legend signed a new Rangers deal last December that runs until the summer of 2024. As revealed by Football Insider, Gerrard has also been approached by Birmingham but he knocked back the Championship outfit. The 40-year-old is committed to a third season at Rangers and knocking Celtic from their perch. The Hoops are preparing for a tilt at a historic and unprecedented 10-in-a-row. In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to unleash never-seen rookie after big development. https://www.footballinsider247.com/...g-bristol-city-job-amid-gerrard-rangers-link/
He got them to the play off final. That's as good as any manager we've had since the 1980s. If Gerrard got that close in one season I would be happy with that!
Any Manager who gets a better job offer is going to take it. Human nature/bigger bucks/higher profile club etc. If we appointed Chris Hughton and we're in the top 6 at the turn of the year and a Premiership team came in for him you wouldn't see him for dust, and rightly so. There is very little loyalty in modern football. I must admit that the thought of Gerrard with his vast international career and European success at club level, plus his contacts throughout the English game at the highest level does sound tempting if he is genuinely interested.
Glasgow Rangers: Gers receive boost as Gerrard rival closes in on Bristol City job According to Football Insider, Chris Hughton has told friends that he is set to take the hot-seat at Bristol City, meaning that Glasgow Rangers’ Steven Gerrard is all but out of the picture. https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/glasgow-rangers-hughton-gerrard-ibrox/
SG really doesn’t do it for me. He doesn’t come over as being overly intelligent but I don’t know him personally so I may be wrong. I just see him as taking his team to second place in a 2-team league!!!!
I like his obvious passion for the game, his apparent no nonsense approach and he doesn't seem to hide behind the players when bad results come along. The one thing that does concern me a little is that Rangers fell away quite dramatically towards the end of the Scottish season when they lost unexpected games, but I believe Celtic had a much more settled squad to start with, and also greater resources at their disposal. I can't see an ex England player and European Cup winner coming to manage us anyway, so it's probably all academic.
SCOTS STAY Steven Gerrard has ‘absolutely no interest’ in leaving Rangers to become Bristol City manager https://talksport.com/football/efl/...-interest-leave-rangers-bristol-city-manager/
you could input Hughton, Terry, Cook, Cowley, Rowe, Warnock, Edwards, Howe, Smith, Pearson or a multitude of other managers here
The Bristol sport umbrella would be raking it in with huge profits if they enticed Stevie G here, a guy like him managing us with his reputation and contacts would bring huge amounts of media attention, sponsorships and lots more.
tell me hes not serious, other than the cups, world club champs and endless personal honours and caps. not a lot .
Being an excellent player doesn’t necessarily mean being a good manager , he’s no experience in the championship, nor has he achieved anything as a manager , granted he’s high profile, which is presumably why we are interested, but in terms of actually what he’s achieved he’s still a beginner. I would personally prefer someone who had experience of doing well at championship level & preferably gaining a promotion or 2.
