If City own it, you’d think Assem would have sold it to himself for peanuts and applied for planning himself.

Egyptian-born Assem Allam is often dubbed "one of East Yorkshire's most successful businessmen" and it might be true as he's said to be worth £185m. He's been in the news lately after announcing his takeover of Hull City FC, so cue lots of publicity along the lines of: "his track record in business suggests he is a man who knows what he wants and just how to get it".

Well, not always. A 1992 edition of Lloyd's List reports: "Efforts to sell Hull-based Ruscador Shipyard as a going concern have failed.... Ruscador was a wholly owned subsidiary of Tempest Diesels, a Lincolnshire firm headed by Assem Allam.... Financial difficulties besetting Tempest Diesels led to Ernst and Young being called in to administer both companies.... The cessation of operations [resulted in] the redundancy of the company's entire workforce of more than 50."

Why has this detail been forgotten? We may never know. Allam's spokesman does not return my calls.

They don't have a lot of luck in the planning department with HCC. Doubt if he's want to spend a penny inside the city boundary either. Point is this bit of land is an asset that gets forgotten about.

They’re still working on developing sites though, their most recent accounts state they’re planning on developing their Cannon Street and Lime Street sites.

I'm trying to recall the details, as it looked a strange arrangement at the time it all went through. I could be wrong, but wasn't Pearson involved in the deal?

    Triggers Broom

Once upon a time there existed a company, this company made made the finest sweeping brushes in the world. They bought in the handles, they bought in the brush, and in a large factory assembled the two constituent parts. But, not happy with just selling the broom, and having to pay someone else for making the parts, the company hatched a plan. They over ordered on the handles, the supplier was delighted, so delighted he employed more wood turners, bought up trees by the forest to be whittled into the finest handles in the world. And waited for his invoice to be paid. His overheads were met that month, but promise of payment came with an order for more handles. Sadly the months passed, until finally, the finest brush handle manufacturer declared bankruptcy. The owner of the sweeping brush company, much to the gratitude of the receivers bought the handle makers. Flushed with the success of this plan, he did the same to the brush maker. it was then brought to the attention of the brush maker that a little workshop was refurbishing their product. Fitting new bristles and polishing the handles. Pleading his own factory could not meet the demand, please would the little workshop, instead of refurbishing, would they like to fix the two new parts together. Many many cartloads of handles and brushes were delivered and many many Triggers Brooms left the workshop. Payment, again, came too late to save the little workshop, and finally the owner of the Triggers Broom company had control over every aspect of the worlds finest sweeping brushes. Some say, though I find it hard to believe, he amalgamated all his companies and named it after the handles. Treehouse.

If you are having a pop at me, forget it. Join the clan of ****wits who believe everything posted on the internet is true without actually finding out for themselves. I don’t give a **** about Assam Allam, I get this sort of **** on every insolvency I work on and it pisses me off. I am the ****er who goes in and closes the doors, sells off the assets and has to deal with silly ****s like you. I deal with the directors, the workers, the creditors and customers, face to face. On every job there are the know nowt spouting off and it always turns out they are wrong.
It’s not about the Allams my problem is with the shabby bastards who are either too thick or too lazy to work out fact from fiction.

The old man is an accountant a big help when running a business. He has shown himself to be a shrewed operator.

I am sure that in your line of work you have come across his type, you know the ones who manage to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.

This has nothing to do with what's on the internet, wikipedia, or social media.
So go on then as you think I am a silly **** / shabby bastard who is too thick or lazy to work out fact from fiction you tell me the truth as I don't even know what you are getting so worked up about.

Surely they need to repay the debt by some point, or is it a revolving facility? Would be good to know if the bank is going to demand the funds are repaid at some point they may have a deadline on their time at the club.
