At this time of year you start getting tricky 2yo maidens that often reveal tomorrow's stars. The second race at Newbury is just such a contest. One's eyes are drawn to Maximal whos a colt by Frankel's sire Galileo out of an Oasis Dream sister to Frankel. Moore is riding for his old guvnor Stoute. Balding has been having a few 2yo winners and runs a Lope de Vega colt called Rushmore who's out of a Lady Howard de Walden mare called Qushchi (Encosta de Lago). She is out of a half-sister to Grand Lodge and from the family of Magic Flute. Charlton has had no 2yo winners but runs a Frankel colt, Barn Owl, out of Group 1 filly Thistle Bird. This mare improved throughout her career and this colt may be one for the future. Hannon could provide the favourite with the once-raced Longlai who is by first season sire Shalaa. Perhaps one to watch but I favour Rushmore.
13:40 Newbury - Outcast (2-y-o races like this one are always tricky affairs, with very little in the way of past form as a guide. On her debut over C&D 10-days ago, ran quite well to finish 5th of 15. However, this race is a step-up from her first race. Very cheap yearling, but nothing wrong with the filly's breeding at all. She should handle the forecast good/good-to-soft going. RP speed figure is pretty good, although probably does not mean much in the context of this sprint, and distance looks to be ideal, and drawn well? At time of writing 7-1 was available, doubt if I'll get that, we'll see. So that's my Saturday punt!) Good luck today guys!
Morning all, Not sure what to make of Frankies only ride of the afternoon all the way up there in York (HARROVIAN). Is it a tip in itself, I'm not too sure. I've gone ew @ 8/1 with 6 places and also taken EVS in the place market. In the same race DARK JEDI 20/1 looks an interesting ew chance too. The 3.05 will be a fast and furious 5f dash and my hope is QUE AMORO 10/3. Two others at York I'm interested in and hoping that a high draw is handy are 12.45 MEWS HOUSE 7/1 and 4.10 EDRAAK 7/1. Will go the for 4 to be placed @ 20/1.
Good morning horsey peeps Telly/comp pics as usual. I seem to be expecting Johnston to have a good day as I'm sure he does too! York 1-55 Communique 230 Euchen Glen ew - disappointing that Chappers has chosen this one on the Opening Show, but he has to get a winner some time! 305 Que Amoro 340 Al Muffrih Newbury 215 Bowman ew if 8 runners 12-1 currently 250 Graceful Magic 325 Vivid Diamond 400 Mum’s Tipple - he is fast becoming another "cliff" horse, but not losing faith just yet Good luck all
Over at Newbury a few arrows at 2.15 a rare Jardine runner here with KRAKEN POWER 12/1 ew, 2.50 TONYX 4/1 to remain unbeaten, 4.00 although not great for 3yo's I'm drawn to REPARTREE 13/2 ew and 4.30 SIR PLATO for the 3 timer. All 4 to place also @ 25/1.
What’s happened to the daily thread ? Has covid got hold of contributors? Seems a very quiet place atm , i’m in work during week , with no signal so not possible to engage . Maybe it’s the lack of NH action ?
My darts today for those seeking to avoid are Sands Chorus at haydock 425 , the new stable are in fine form , this one could nick this , especially if ground gets heavy . Live In The Moment 12 30 y , batman trains this , so anything can happen ! Three Little Birds , great song , but the horse has a shout at bath tonight , likes the course and yard having a good spell , 20/1 ew shot .
My arrows today 2.30 York Caradoc 3.05 York El Astronaute/ Equilateral r/f 3.40 York Arctic Fox 6.55 Haydock Molly Mai Lucky 15, acca. Good luck all. Have a good weekend
There are a few today that look worth opposing and some that the bookies are drawing the same conclusion as the punters. In the quest to start the day with a winner, I look at the top weight in a three year old handicap: York 12:45 GARSMAN. The horse has three wins and two seconds from six starts this year, last time going down by a neck in a better race at Pontefract. He has been raised 3lb but the 5lb claimer that day has been replaced with Cieren Fallon. Mews House won on the same card in a slower time but receives a lot of weight here; and Live In The Moment would rate a danger if his best form was on turf. I opposed Desert Icon last week when it was declared a non-runner and I am still against it today at York – it stole an egg and spoon race last time against just four rivals and is now on a career-high 9lb higher mark. I would like Sky Defender, a surprise winner at Epsom last time, but being drawn in the next county is off-putting. This leads me to the lightly-raced John Gosden runner HARROVIAN, Frankie’s only ride on the card – the odds a reflection of those facts given that the horse that he beat in a photo last time, Archie Perkins, re-opposes 6lb better off and four times the price. Also of interest would be Sir Michael Stoute’s Solid Stone – his only runner at the track – and the improving Dark Jedi, an easy winner of a decent race at Ripon last time and a good each-way option at the prices. At Newbury, my eye was immediately drawn to veteran JUDICIAL in the Hackwood Stakes, clearly still very capable at the age of 8. There are question marks against many of his opponents. Dakota Gold has disappointed on both starts in 2020 and Michael Dods clearly needs to get him back to his 2019 form. The Tin Man is clearly not the force of old and the Ascot specialist gave little reason for optimism last time but did win this race four years ago. Summerghand steps up from handicaps but is usually a ‘nearly’ horse in big races. Of the two three year olds, I think Mums Tipple simply has not trained on and his facile York win last year was a one-off, whilst the lightly-raced Repartee, third in the Gimcrack last year, is on the upgrade after winning a Listed race.
Michael Attwater sends two to Bath this evening and it appears by the betting they are expecting good things. Ask the Guru 5.35 backed from 25s - 11s bet365, nothing to suggest this will even get close so why the Money? Pink Flamingo 6.05 Backed from 10s - 11/2 bet365, best race this year would be the newmarket race where Flamingo seemed to run in snatches and finishing third behind Line Of Reason, Get this one to go through the race and expect a late rattle to the line.
Judicial, a fav of mine, has give me plenty if wins over the years and he should be thede about today but I have deserted him for The Tin Man who has done me no favours a few times. Went for Archie Perkins as the odds are way too big in his tie in with Hannovian who is fancied due to Frankie only gojng to York for 1 ride.
The 12.45 York is an interesting affair where the betting is tight between three runners at the head of the betting. Chairmanic broke his duck in a Handicap last time but is 8 lbs higher now and drops to a speedy 5F from a soft ground 6F at Haydock and this looks a different sort of test. Garsman has been running well and gone close the last twice but he is more exposed perhaps after 11 starts and is now 9 lbs higher than his last winning mark. I went with Clareyblue, who was beaten Fav last time out. Only 4th that day he was involved in early scrimmaging and the jockey reported that thehorse had no more to give in the closing stages. York should suit and he has been dropped a pound, as well as had blinkers fitted for the first time. The potential concern is Martyn Meade having a quiet spell with few runners and no winners recently but I felt that if the horse is going to win it will be at a sharper track and he's unexposed after looking like 6F was too far two runs ago. The Dascombe runner had looked promising up until a now-show on her final start of last season and that run can probably be ignored. The price is appealing but the stable are 0/26 at the moment. She Can Dance was probably over faced when trying Listed company and this is more feasible but perhaps her confidence has been dented by two runs down the field and she is 8 lbs higher than her Handicap winning mark previously. Chairmanic is a non-runner now, so there will be a rule 4 to my 5/1 on Clareyblue. Hope I haven't jinxed anyone with my pick.
Gone against you here as Richard Hannon has FLY MISS HELEN which is now trading at 7/2 from 12s, with the Hannon bandwagon rolling on the money could well speak for this one.
Other than the comp picks I have also gone for the below Fly Miss Helen 1.40 Newbury 7/2 Tomorrow's Dream 2.50 Newbury 5/2 Elegant Dan 3.50 Tramore 3/1 Lucky Vega 6.45 Curragh 9/4 Dutch Story 6.55 Haydock 9/4 Hammy End 7.05 Bath 5/4 Lucky 63 and acca
