Yes, some hopeful news at last *crosses fingers* https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-53425561
I’ll put this here because it is connected. Holidaymakers acting like it is a normal summer, causing authorities to demand the closure of bars. https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020...-with-tourist-shut/amp/#.Xw_ilQEWf9Y.facebook
I am surprised that no one has commented on the alleged Russian hack made in an attempt go gain access to our Covid vaccine research. Whilst I don't doubt that there were Russian attempts to influence recent elections in the UK, I cannot understand why our scientists are not sharing this information to that the need to hack is obviated. Surely it is in everyone's interest that this information is passed around? Hacking should not have been necessary. It does make me wonder whether the search for a vaccine is more about making money than saving people's lives around the world.
I would have thought sharing information when the vaccine is found and signed off would make sense. And we have already said the vaccine would not be made for profit........in the US however, if they find it first they will charge the Earth.
IMO, the only reason the government have mentioned it is to pre-empt the Russian Report that will likely prove that the Russians have influenced previous elections/referendums. When the influence was in their favour, they didn’t want to discuss it, but because Corbyn used the leaking of the UK and USA trade talks document, during the last election, they are trying to make out that Labour are as bad as they are. Smoke and mirrors and they are using the alleged hacking as a way of muddying the waters.
Another good monologue from James O’Brien. https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/james-obrien/james-obriens-powerful-boris/
I like the bit where he says that Boris is crediting us as contributing to this great success, thus laying the foundations of blame when he needs it! Crazy **** man! Sadly thoroughly believable!
Interesting and actually made sense...scientists working on a vaccine have been told by the government that it must be made here and not in the US. The reasoning is that it must be distributed equably and the US is not to be trusted...this follows them buying up all the remdisavir (sp). And remember the US also confiscated PPE that was ordered and on its way to another country.
Six different clusters of coronavirus have been found: https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...-in-major-breakthrough-for-treatment-12030652 Still convinced I've suffered and recovered
The vaccine will absolutely be made for profit. There's billions at stake here, in future research grants if nothing else. There may be some philanthropic impulses partly driving the development and distribution, but profit will remain a significant motive for all parties.
I do not think either the Americans or Russians will share any vaccine however I don't think that we should be similarly selfish. If our vaccine saves Russian lives, it is all the better for everyone because there are less people to pass on the Covid. Better that all the knowledge is disseminated to sop scientists wasting time in their research is heading up a blind alley. It is absolute stupidity both hacking the scientists and then calling out the hackers. Just give the Russians what research we have and do the same for all the other countries too. This shows capitalism in it's very worse light.
Citizens of Barcelona are being asked to stay at home unless going out for essential business. Although “only” 9 covid deaths in Spain, last week, the number of people contracting it is going up again, since lockdown was eased. Add into the mix the idiot tourists, that have been responsible for bars being shut down in Mallorca, because of their behaviour, I fear it could rapidly get out of control out there. I can see UK tourists being forced into quarantine on arrival in Spain, if the usual suspects don’t learn how to act like adults and drink and act sensibly. https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/covid-19-barcelona-residents-asked-to-stay-home/1913982
On the subject of “only 9 covid deaths last week”, how can we be contemplating asking those working from home to risk returning to work places, to offices that won’t have a mandatory rule enforcing masks, when we still have several hundred deaths each week? Especially when the scientists say that it shouldn’t be happening.
