I don't know enough about Portugal but I'd hazard a guess how they approach it is helped by the general continental culture towards these things?

People are allowed to have a different opinion to you. I don't give a shhite about the name being removed, but I do give a shhite about what's trying to be done here. Erasure of historical references. It's like in history where you see references to evacuation, relocation, when sometimes it's actually eviction or genocide, but it depends what spin you want to put on something, for future historical depictation. Then the historians will churn out whatever the leaders of the day desire.

Of course, not disputing that opinions differ. I'm just pointing out that history has always been recorded from a certain perspective, as you say, from the agenda of the ruling class. Those who control the power, control the narrative. So the idea that history being 'erased' is a new thing or a 'left wing' thing is quite frankly a lot of bollocks.
