Very frustrating game and result but in the grand scheme of things, it means nothing. What this team has done over the past two seasons has been phenomenal. They have put in monumental effort and exceeding expectations on every level. So for me last night's result is forgivable, they aren't machines. Not only have we won the league after a 30 year wait, which was more than enough for me, we won it spectacularly and in the fewest games ever. I will take a trophy over a record any day of the week but for those who are just as concerned about breaking records, here are some we have broken: We had the best start to a season ever in the top 5 European leagues, gaining 61 points after the first 21 games which bested the record held collectively by city, Bayern and Juventus. That went on to be most points gained after 27 games as we went on to win the next six games. We had our longest unbeaten run since 1894. We gained more points across a 38 game period than any other club has ever done 104, more than city's 102 ( pity it wasn't in one season). New club record for consecutive wins. First English club to win the international treble...... ......and simultaneously the league. Most successive home league wins, 24 beating city's 20. Biggest points gap between first and second placed team ever - 25. We recorded the first time we'd defeated every other team in the league in our entire history. Now if you want to moan, moan away. I will just sit here basking in the glory.
And probably most importantly, we’ve been w joy to watch and provided lots of entertainment to fans which lets be honest, is what football is all about
Said it for years and I'll still maintain my stance despite us recently winning anything worth winning... I'd rather be entertained each game than win a trophy! However, as the last two seasons proved, the two are not necessarily a separate entity. We've done both
We struck gold when we got Klopp. He's provided everything a fan could wish for. He did what he set out to do and in the most stylish way.
No complaints - we've won the league by a country mile, and deservedly so. After getting 97 points last season and missing out, I never thought it would happen. Does have to be said though, we've been ****e, Palace home game apart, from late February, never mind since the re-start. And this has to be said too - Virgil has been sloppy for months. He plays now as if he's listening to his own commentary in his head about how ultra cool he is, the Lionel Richie of defending: problem is, he was more like Lionel Blair last night the way he was wafted off that ball. Trent's another one who's playing as if he's reading tomorrow's plaudits too. In fact, Mane is the only one I'd say has retained his world class status since February. So yeah, er, no complaints. Sort of. But plenty of fears for next season if we're going to trundle into September like this.
Not convinced that stayng out of the transfer market will give us a team that will compete with next season's teams.
cant imagine it’s through choice. Klopp will want to improve but we just don’t have the money / fsg won’t risk the financials of the club in these current times. cant moan about having responsible owners
I agree. Most will strengthen and it will be much tougher. Throw in a couple of possible injuries to key players and we’ll struggle to repeat this season. That said, I will not complain one jot. These are unique times and if our owners are prudent, who could blame them? They've said from the start that they’re not able to compete like that.
We were very lucky with injuries of recent, even if we want to upgrade young players we still need experienced players to help them. Even buying free agent players, I don't care.
I didn't watch any of Klopp's interviews this week but apparently he has said that if we have money in the summer, we will spend it. Read into that what you will. We have shrewd owners who didn't have any football knowledge when they took over (they have learnt as time has gone on) but they do understand what it takes to turn a sports club into a very successful sports club; they own two. I can't see them getting this far and not investing further in the squad.
It’s relative though. City will spend £150m, chavs too...we’ll spend a third of that if we’re lucky. Klopp said in an interview that to improve this team, it’ll take money... We will, I’m sure spend but it will be done shrewdly.
Next season we will do well to get top four with no new signings. Teams have sussed out that if they press we struggle.
Best signing we've made in years. Certainly the most excited I've been about a signing since we got Torres!
Last year I was saying the same. I simply couldn’t believe that we hadn’t used the CL win to really strengthen...and look... squad wise, we cannot compete with City and I was looking forward to adding real quality and depth.....it’s the only way that you can compete on so many fronts...but it’ll have to wait. Next years priority should be the league and then the CL. I love a good cup win but we have to prioritise and use the squad appropriately....so we will not be at Wembley again I’m afraid.
Think we'll make top four. But I don't think we're the nailed-on certainties to challenge City that we were a few months ago.
