Exactly. They negotiate their own deals because they have no affiliation with Qatar.

No. They bought a licence for a region that the PL chose to sell the rights for separately, there’s a distinct difference. The rights for region beIN bought from the PL included SA.

Feel sorry for the middle easterners.

BeIN is atrocious. Their studios have an echo which is so ****ing annoying, they got big when Jose was on there but since then they've slowly left again.

    Shoddy stuff.

It's feasible there's a negotiation ongoing between the PL and KSA for broadcast rights in Saudi Arabia, in light of there now being no PL available in that region. The sanctions on Qatar were ratified by Man City, I mean, UAE, Kuwait and Egypt. Again I think KSA will have understood the terms of the agreement BeIN had in place, which probably has some clauses about exclusions. This is the most logical explanation for the abrupt and direct decision from Saudi.

So I'd imagine there's now a very generous offer on the table for "exclusive" Saudi rights for STC, which is of course a sweetener for pushing any possible NUFC deal through. There's been a couple of comments about the PL working closely with bidders to make sure they pass, which again is a feasible narrative.

Why did they do that though? It’s a commercial contract at the end of the day, not worth the paper it’s written on if it directly affects a third party not privy to the contract.

Clearly what’s happening is the Saudi’s are negotiating a deal to supply their own audience with the product directly with the PL and the PL will satisfy their stakeholder with a reimbursement.

Also clear is that no amount of refund would satisfy Qatar because they have another agenda here completely.

Why would a TV rights deal for a U.K. based sport ordinarily involve the Govt of a 3rd party Nation?

The Saudis got their arses out as the Qataris won the contract, so decided to act the **** and facilitate piracy.
