It paves the way by using state power to crush an existing rights holder. How is the Premier League ever going to consider working with Saudi Arabia when their already existing partner has been abused?
BEin broke Saudi competition law. They were holding football fans to ransom by forcing them to take out subscriptions to non sports channels so they could watch Euro 96. That is what led to the original ban.
The Saudis are no mugs mate there’s a reason they have a 320b pot of money to create 400b in 3 years time. They are clever people and well WELL compensated so they will make the right moves at the right time. I said about 25 pages ago there was another play happening on this takeover and I still think there is. It is not just about our takeover, think about it. For it to work they need to generate commercial income (FFP rulings aside they are in this to make money not spunk it and EG was completely right) so to do so they need the whole population of SA to be watching their local British team. All sponsorship money is purely linked to their ability to stream their own football. It’s a masterclass of commercial proportions. They have literally pulled the rug out from under beins feet if it pulls off. Takeover done. New PL deal to broadcast. In progress. Commercial sponsorships lined up for all their companies. Lined up. PL get their money. Sorted. Everything is now above board and legally kosher.
This. The Saudi's have kept quiet and let their lawyers do the talking. Qatar have just been outdone by the masters (sic.)
That’s their problem to sort. I’m obviously biased on this but at the end of the day it’s business. If a country wants to stop another country from broadcasting on their turf then they should be able to. Remember bein have publicly slated SA on a geopolitical level so are saudi just going to step aside and say yes ok we will let you broadcast. I think not. It’s like saying if you have paid for the rights you can effectively say what the **** you want.
Absofuckinglutely. There’s a reason why there is so much calm in this storm. They maybe do in fact have this **** under control and if the PL come out of this with credibility and a result then they have played a ducking blinder. They would literally be lining 5 birds with 1 stone and making a mint at the same time for not just the PL but for all the PL clubs.
The Premier League can make their own rules but they can’t make their own laws, that’s the reason why fundamentally they cannot stop this takeover. The Saudi’s do not have to smooth things over with any PL stakeholder if they have been acting outside of Saudi law within the KSA.
