    Couldn’t answer the question then.
    That’s a shame.

Why should they feel unable to be open about their sexuality? I have clients who are homosexual. I've known academics who are homosexual. I know friends and acquaintances who are homosexual. I know football fans who are homosexual. The only abuse a footballer will suffer would be from opposing fans - rightly or wrongly - and that will die down after a while. Who is likely to act badly towards him in a football club? This seems to be the target audience - employees of a football club. Why doesnt this player simply tell people at the club that he is homosexual? I'm sure the response would be underwhelming.

I typed that before reading your question. But it's the same question you've repeated several times. You just dont like my answers. That's a shame.

I’ve no idea whether I like your answers
    All you’ve given is questions.

You’ve given no reason not to do it while I’ve given loads to do it.

I’m pretty sure he has a better understanding of it than you, and for some reason he hasn’t, and he also thinks awareness education would help.
He knows more about it that you and I.
If there were loads of openly gay footballers and for some reason one wasn’t comfortable in coming out you might have a point...but there isn’t, and there’s obviously a reason for that (unless you believe he’s the only one, which is highly unlikely)

So...why not do awareness education...what harm could it do?

I'll go back to my first answer: "He seems to think that if people go on courses they will change their mind. It's just not going to happen."
If you have no idea whether you like my answer that is purely down to you.
    My answer wasn't a question.

There's no evidence that it would be any use.
I think many people would not be happy with being forced to go on a course that they would feel would be a waste of time. They will all know people who are gay and will feel it is unnecessary. I've known people who were gay since my teens 50 years ago. It's ridiculous to think I've been going round with my eyes closed or not talking to people. I know most footballers will be in their late teens to mid 30s but homosexuality (can we say that?) has been more open in their time.

Client: "Hello Peter, any news yet on my annual accounts?"
Peter: "What are your views on the purpose of education courses...."

    [three hours later]

Client: "Any news yet on my annual accounts?"

Silly person: "The number of murders are going up. Something must be done!"
Silly person: "I know, lets send everybody on a 'murder awareness course'. That will solve the problem and make for a better world."
Sensible person: "Are you sure that will be an effective solution?"
Silly person: "If you don't agree with me you must be a murderer!"

I still maintain that media are stirring up a storm that doesn't really exist to any meaningful extent. I would guess a fair few would rather keep quiet than endure the media intrusions that would surely follow. I doubt most people give a ****e as long as they play well on the pitch.

It's a rum do, especially when there are others with less acceptable sexual preferences playing.

If only all those coaches found guilty of sexually assaults on young footballers had been on some kind of "education" course this wouldn't have happened and there would be a better world.

Awareness sessions are not about explaining homosexuality to you Peter.
They’re about explaining to people how their behaviours impact on others, enabling an open conversation, and causing people to reflect on their own behaviours and hopefully improve anything that would make it easier for others.
If you are extremely open and very considerate about the language you use and your behaviours to ensure you don’t cause people to have to feel unable to express who they really are, then you’d be a very useful part of the session as you could contribute to it.
If you were perfect and didn’t need to think about anything then you’d come out of it exactly the same, perfect. However others less perfect would have taken something from your input as well as the other input.
A well facilitated session would do no harm, and is highly likely to make a positive impact on some, and would make it easier for you, the perfect one, to challenge inappropriate behaviour too as you would all have the same frame of reference to draw on.
You’re right that people of that age group are more likely to be aware and less likely to behave inappropriately, but the facts suggest that for some reason that isn’t as good as it could be in football. Partly fans, a larger part as DMD says the media as I agree the likely circus won’t be helping, but there’s obviously something else because otherwise there would be openly gay footballers a long time before they’d worry about fans or media.
So it wouldn’t do any harm, and is highly likely to be positive for some who aren’t perfect in their behaviour.
So I don’t think that you saying it might not work because you know everything there is to know is a reason to not put it in place for footballers.

Now here's a thought. Well, more like a thought experiment:

Two observers in a thunderstorm, one (A) on an exceedingly fast moving train, the other(B) standing on a station platform.
A lightening bolt flashes through the sky ( it's a late night train expected to arrive at the station very soon). Do A and B see the lightening bolt at the same instant (according to their perfectly synchronized watches ?
At the moment the lightening strikes, a British Rail announcement is heard: "The train that's supposed to be arriving at platform 3 is light-years behind schedule".

    The thought experiment fails ?

    Deja vu ??

So back in the day when you where training and you and your fellow trainee's were okay with your gay colleague, where as the older ones still showed prejudice, what helped you with your views and what do think may have helped some of the older prejudiced ones moderate their opinion?
