I don't think we had big players TBH, so not sure that was the problem.....but I understand the frustrations of just sitting in the middle of a very competitive championship and the frustrations of the team not being consistent and lack attractive football......so the time has come..
I really do hope we move forward, Better & more entertaining football, Better manager, Better players and then we move in the right direction, progression, which has to be premiership...because that's what everyone's been calling for. ..But we are Bristol City and normally it doesn't happen..normally we go the other way!! Fingers tightly crossed it works out...:emoticon-0148-yes:

As we all wait for the next move I hope our previous experiences don't influence the appointment of our new manager. In the past we seemed to look to the lower echelons for our selection and I just hope we look further up the evolutionary ladder this time out. We desperately need someone who has experience managing at the top level if we seriously expect to challenge next season and I would be disappointed if we didn't go down the right route. At least there should be one advantage in hiring a previously seasoned manager and that is the willingness of our owner to give time to the newbie and back it up with a serious lesson in listening to the needs.

How many times have we been told that Bristol City intend to be a contender and just when we believed those stories the whole thing seems to crumble before our very eyes? Many good players have come and gone from Ashton Gate and I think the constant changing of core players has been part of our undoing because we all know that consistency of effort is paramount to our future success. I am slightly worried that for many reasons the money may not be available, given the financial implications of Covid19 and the spending costs of last season, but time alone will tell.

Please get it right this time please.:emoticon-0137-clapp

Are you serious? You do know that we have at least 12 full internationals and around 6 to 8 under 21 internationals on our books at present?

    Absolutely spot on.

For my twopenneth, I suspect the only reason we are looking for a new manager is because of the financial position that you elude to reference covid 19. I don't think they would sacked Johnson under normal circumstances.

I am sure that SL, little Jon and Ashton are very much aware that so far we only have 6,000 confirmed season ticket sold for next season, I suspect they realised that to stand any chance whatsoever to get close to the 16,000 of this season LJ had to go in the first place, because I think many would not have renewed and quite a few might have asked for a refund citing loss of earnings.

I suspect that they are also well aware that the above scenario might be the case if they appoint another Johnsonesque cheap option/no experience at this level candidate once more, at least I sincerely hope that is the case, my 62 years of support has long ago prepared me for this is BCFC and when did sense come into decision making.

I should think the majority of players playing in the championship are Internationals. So not big to whom they're playing against...........in which case, he has handled them in the last 4.5 years...

You are dreaming my friend, they are 'big' within the context of his record as a player/manager.

He has pretty much fallen out with every loan signing he has ever made.

This season alone Bentley, Baker, Kalas, Nagy, Henrickson, Benkovich, Diedhiou, Eliasson, Palmer, Williams and Wells, that's not a bad starting line up.

Phil Brown did a decent job at Hull but that was nearly a decade ago. He eventually failed at Southend United after nearly 5 years and now manages in India.
Paul Jewell did well at Wigan but is out of the game currently and hasn't been a full manager since about 2015. He's also a bit of a loose cannon.
I'm sure Holloway would love the job, but he seems happy at Grimsby and there would just be too much baggage with him being ex Gas.

So has Alan Dicks and he's not working at present.

I don't get your point, he's expressing as am I his preference and a breakaway from the normal cycle of hiring from the lower divisions or promoting another failed BCFC coach.

Whoever it is, needs to be somebody the players (especially senior players) can look up to and respect for his past achievements as a player and a manager.

If nothing else, it's a consistent record in the average points-per-match across 3 clubs

It proves he's won more than he's lost, which over 366 games is quite good.

Really? I thought we tried to sign most of the loans signings who are any good on a permanent: Palmer, Afobe, Kalas, DaSilva, Tomlin - even Abraham.
Ok, out of that list something went wrong with Tomlin - and that may or may not have been due to a 'falling out' (I heard he was having some bad 'personal' issues with his marriage), but our performances and results definitely improved once he left.
Every time a player had a poor game we hear that he'd 'obviously fallen out with Johnson. I personally have seen no evidence of this other than what people who had never liked LJ posted on various chat forums - which is hardly 'evidence'!.
I can't think of any loan signings who left that I was disappointed to see leave the club - apart from Tammy - but he left with nothing but praise for our setup and management and was clearly ready for the Prem, whereas we clearly were not.

The truth is probably somewhere in between - the dressing room is not going to be a very warm friendly place after a defeat so I expect some words have been exchanged at times, but that's football - and everyone who has ever played the game knows its part of the course. Some, like Ryan Kent for example, seemed to have a 'Billy Big-bollocks' air about him - now I may be TOTALLY wrong about that, but that was the 'vibe' he gave out - and if true then I would expect that any 'fall-out' would more likely to have come from the regular team-mates who he displaced in the matchday squad, rather than the manager himself.
Diony was just awful - apparently he had all sorts of personal issues going on, as well as being homesick for France, so I don't really see that as a 'falling out', just a loan that simply didn't work out and came to a natural end - a relief for all concerned.

Basically I've not read from any reliable source that there have been any 'falling out'.

    That’s just a stupid retort.

If you want it explained. Angelic said we need someone who’s experienced in being promoted to the premiership. Those 3 I named and probably countless more who’ve not gone onto anything special. Who have previously been promoted to the Prem.

I get that you are getting a hard on for Hughton with all the comments against other posters. However he is not everyone’s first choice.

Yes and he named Hughton and nobody else.

As for your last sentence, really?, Hughton is my choice, myself and others have explained our reasons why he's our first choice, others who have expressed a choice have not, they have made comments like Holden or other lower league managers but have not explained why.

So in the spirit of debate lets have it.

You only mentioned Palmer as a signing, do you honestly think everything was ok between them?, at a time when we cannot create chances our 2nd best assist maker still cannot get a game. Ever wondered why Wells was dropped to the bench for the Millwall game?

I was talking more specifically about Benkovich and Henricksen from this season and a long list from previous seasons like Ryan Kent for instance.
