How about one team in the prem signs the last 25 England players that started a game for a nominal fee for the year before the next World Cup?! Play them together in a 25 man first team for one season whereupon they can sign back for their old clubs on bosmans. They might not win anything in terms of domestic competitions but they just might benefit from playing together for more than 90 minutes at a time. With a little bit of outside the box thinking I believe I have just sorted Southgate's new job out for him!
see this is the thing, playing together the egos would eventually die down. throw in a few "potential" england playuers and some U21's and i reckon it'd be a cohesive team by the time World Cup comes around.
i am aware this is all bollocks by the way... but the shiniest pair of bollocks ever seen nonetheless
Agree on the cap, not bothered if its an Albanian in charge if we saw some good football. I think the big problem we have is in the training and development of players from young. We don't seem to produce many 'technically comfortable' players or teams that can keep the ball all day, i know there are exceptions but loads of other nations produce them regularly....even places like Serbia regularly breed good players and teams. Too often we seem to only see the Sky-Hype and fall into the trap of thinking that ordinary footballers like Gareth Barry are world beaters, until a World Cup comes along and Tunisia make us look like idiots.
Why would you want foreign players to wear hats? They're looking at banning snoods so can't see them being allowed to wear hats...
Doesn't really work or address the problem though does it? Everywhere in the EU has the same rules when it comes to players from the EU. When it comes to players from outside the EU we have more restrictions on giving out work permits than almost anybody else. It being easier to play foreigners doesn't seem to have harmed the likes of Spain and Italy when it's come to recent tournaments does it? Why when it's easier for them to play foreigners are so many of their kids breaking through if the reason we're failing is that there's not enough restrictions on foreign players?
That's because the clubs regulate themselves more on the continent, didn't the Spanish starting XI in the World Cup Final all play for either Barca or Madrid?
Is it that they regulate themselves, or is it that all the clubs sign the best prospects and those clubs just happen to play in the countries producing the better prospects?
Id rather see the mix we've currently got than have to endure watching the "best" English players. Sides, the wage demands would be comical! Christ, if Carroll can be sold for 35m imagine what a semi decent proven player would cost! Would anyone really prefer a top English goalie over our current ones?? Not me!
The Carroll story backs up my belief that NP working with AP is bloody excellent for the future of HCAFC.. 1) How much do you think Fraytt is worth now? probably already more than ã1.3m 2) British players are so expensive i.e. Carroll.. but hey we've signed Stewart, Chester, Fryatt & Mclean... superb future investments and they can play already.. Cairney & Devitt will add to this blend.. the jury is still out on Cooper & Cullen but they're 'ours' too. 3) We're looking at a very estimated ã20m+ of assets there.. Brown signed ageing foreigners.. not good on the balance sheet.. NP is building for the future (I sound like Wenger lovers but I don't care)
as long as its not an England cap. Otherwise it will be like the England Cricket team (aka South Africa 2nd XI).
but unlike Wenger we are building with young British talent & not the French U21 squad. I agree with you tigercity -- it does seem like we are building the core of a team that can be very successful.
