Not sure I like Darren Lewis's tone here...

"Chairman Daniel Levy has already proven his ruthless streak by showing one talented but injury-prone Spurs centre-half, Jonathan Woodgate, the door this summer.

King, 30, has responded by playing three Premier League games in a row for the first time for years"

Didn't he play 3+ games at the end of the last 2 seasons? Also, he didn't 'respond to Woody's exit' by playing 3 games, he played because he was fit enough to.

    Whinge over!...time for another Ledley love-in <hug>

Love this vid, especially the reaction of the Pool players he dumps on the floor! <laugh>

Even if he is unable to play often enough to merit a squad place, he should definitely be retained by the club - maybe as a defensive coach - he probably knows more than whoever is doing the job now, anyway.
It may sound harsh, but we have to be realistic. If his knee won't hold up to at least 20 games per season, then it has to be asked whether he can command a place in the squad.
However, he has been a magnificent servant to the club, and I will be very disappointed in Spurs, if they just cut him adrift.

...but Spurs have won the last 7 consecutive matches in which Ledley King has started.

Here's Ledley's Premier League record over the past three seasons...

...that average of 2.04 points won per game works-out to around 78 points for an entire season.

Yes, but medical technology moves on, too. I was watching a programme the other night about how Scientists can now grow new cartlidge from stem cells from your own body. It is currently being tried on some Human "guinea pigs" Whether this would be appropriate in Ledley's case, I'm not sure. But, it shows you how much more can be done nowadays.

I think that he'd accept a deal where a large chunk of the wages were pay-as-you-play, to be honest.
It would hard not to, really.

    I wonder if he'll have a testimonial?

I'm sure he would PNP. He'll go down as a Spurs legend.

It's daft to speculate at this stage of the season but there's no question that he's an invaluable player to us when we can get him playing.

He's got 15% of the games needed to earn a new deal under his belt, although I wouldn't be surprised if the club decided to offer him a new contract long before he plays 20 games.

Nearly though, it was the last 2 games last season, and the last 3 to finish 4th in 09/10...not bad for Alzheimers! :D

LDL, you do not have a clue - for starters Cahill isn't fit to lace Ledley's boots. Secondly, why would we want Cahill when we have Kaboul?

    Give it a rest, Lidls.
We're all aware of King's fitness problems.

The problem we have without King, as good as Dawson & Kaboul ( and even Cahill if we signed him) are, is that we lack the organisation that King gives to us. Any of our CB's look so much better playing along side King as he talks them through the game, until we find someone who can do this for us King has to play as many games as he can.

Ensil i really hope King can still lace his own boots,or he is in trouble. But he is irreplaceable, if he can't play the 20 games, surely a pay as you play is better than losing him.

I guess it's the same as Ryan Giggs Luke. Although Giggs is obviously a long way past his best he still has something to offer. Ledley is, by far, the best footballing centre half in the premiership when fit. He may lack a yard of pace, but he reads the game like nobody else.

Ok so he is not fit all the time. Is Ferdinand? He wants to carry on, we want him to carry on, his contribution to our fortunes is undeniable. I have nothing against signing Cahill, but Ledley is the beating heart of our club. I hope he stays.

We did have a very good defensive record when our central pairing was Dawson and Bassong though, ET.
    Strange but true.

That is strange as I feel they are both (particularly Bassong) prone to lapses in concentration

It's not like they had a ton of protection from the midfield either, as we were playing 4-4-2.

Dawson does play better on the right of the central pairing though, which may explain some of his errors when playing alongside Gallas, who tends to take that role when they play together.
