Of course it was, whenever it happened. I think most people who bought "bags of tinnies" probably drank them inside with family or a mate or two but tonight are out with many mates. Is that Boris's fault?
What was his fault was choosing this Saturday and them labelling it an Independence Day celebration. Quite what there is to celebrate is another matter, but the way it was heralded and promoted was plain ****ing daft. Open them up on Monday, by next weekend most have already had their precious first pint, and the pubs would have had a week to get used to their new ways of working and it’d have been a much more subdued affair imo.
Was quite a pleasant experience. Ordered drinks via an app so no queueing even if it took a while to get served. Managed to nab a table outside. Loads of staff. Better than the average Saturday afternoon pub experience if anything.
Just checked a couple of websites; the British Library will open on 22nd July. The Tate Modern, on the 27th. No dates for swimming pools, gyms or leisure centres yet. Pubs are open though. Hooray.
Yeah I know. Ally Pally and the surrounding area is all quite affluent. Conjours up scenes of Jemimas and Pippas quaffing G&Ts on the lawn
Ally Pally is a stone’s throw from Wood Green, which is pretty much the opposite of affluent. And there’s a massive housing estate that backs onto it at the bottom of the hill in Hornsey. True, it’s also close to poncey pretentious Muswell Hill (where I live). The crowds frequenting the park couldn’t be more diverse, in the best sense of the word. Gemimas and Pippas quaffing G&Ts very much a minority.
Yeah same as most parts of London. You only have to go a couple of streets from wealthy, to find tower blocks and sink estates. I grew up in Lewisham on a council estate, which in turn backed onto some of the wealthiest streets in London in Blackheath. Which again, was a stones throw from a place called the Kidbrooke estate which was one of the most notorious crime ridden estates in south london. Didn't realise you lived in Muswell Hill, you posh bastard.
First in line for the barbers, just gotta wait half hour for the **** to open now. This is an unexpected bonus mind:
I think you should post before and after pics of your Barnet (can block your face out, no one wants to see that anyway)
Saw the Pixies at Ally Pally a few years back. I just remember it being a bit of a pain in the arse to get a bus back to town. The Pixies were excellent though.
Harborough is a fair sized market town on the Northamptonshire border and on the main road out of Leicester ... prime for an exodus out of the city ... pretty predictable. Mate of mine used to run the bar at The Swan Hotel there.
Next time you go, the train from Alexandra Palace station to Finsbury Park takes 6 minutes. Loads of transport options from there
Yeah, was trying to get to Holland Park as was staying at a mates. The bus journey took a while! Is Alexander Palace Station overland then?
Yeah, it’s an overground station on the Moorgate to Welwyn Garden City/Hertford commuter line. When there’s events at the Pally, there’s often shuttle buses to the Exhibition Hall and back, but it’s only a 10 minute walk up the hill. Bloody steep hill mind, but I’m sure you can manage it.
