What a load of balderdash. The CoS doesn't ask it's members to abstain from alcohol. The Church of England is regarded as more "Catholic" because it was created to allow Henry VIII to get out of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon rather than for any religious disagreements. Henry was, after all, known as 'the defender of the faith' before he fell out with the Pope. The C of E is therefore much closer to Roman Catholicism than presbytarian, Calvanist and Lutheran branches of protestantism which were founded on a long list of objections to Catholic teachings.
