The High Street carnage continues, TM Lewin (who were bought out of admin a couple of weeks ago) have announced that none of their 66 shops will re-open, John Lewis have announced that not all their stores will re-open, Monsoon (again just bought out of admin) have announced that very few of their shops will re-open and Arcadia (Top Man/Top Shop) have just announced they're getting rid of 500 head office staff and are preparing extensive store closures.
Terrible for the staff My daughter is a fashion designer in London and has been laid off (actually unfortunately she had quit as a senior designer for a high street brand to move to a newer company...and then Covid happened while she was working her notice. She was then made redundant from the second company before she'd even started) Long term issues developing that's for sure.
We'll still need clothes, so hopefully new brands and shops will eventually emerge. Doesn’t help people like your daughter in the meantime Den, hope she gets sorted soon.
Difficult times for so many. I expect mass unemployment will happen. I work in the aerospace and automotive supply chain, so surprises there. We don't expect to close altogether, but you never know, **** happens. Good luck to everyone that has been laid off. It's a real heart breaker.
Cheers She's pretty OK about it, but worrying financially Let me know if you need a designer! (actually I lost a bloody Trojan T Shirt to a food delivery which arrived with bleach on it this week!)
That’s disappointing news. Hopefully she’ll get fixed up with something very soon. Sadly I can see this kind of situation happening many times over.
She's not assuming there will be any new jobs in the fashion business for a long time, so has set up a completely separate business to try and help a little at least. I think you're right though...lots more to come when furloughing ends
