Agreed - if we stay up the club has the same, or similar, income; and as you say, if we go down he walks. Win/win I think?
I have a feeling, the way players leave for nothing, that we won’t pay another transfer fee as long as the Allams are here. They aren’t going to throw money at clubs for a half decent player when we can pick up, supposedly good players for free, then sell them on at a profit or let them walk at the end of their contracts. That to me is the model I’m seeing from them now, the only way they can see to make money, it’s like buying shares low & selling high.
If they don't think he's worth the salary THEY agreed with him when he signed then that's on them, isn't it? Lichaj offered to sign the extension with an out for the club in the event of relegation and they still wouldn't take it. If you think our club captain who is our only senior RB at the club isn't worth a one year extension on current terms then I don't know what to say to you.
So bang average he was made our captain this season and was entrusted with being our only senior RB. By contrast we went out and signed Elder because of how 'bang average' Kingsley was.
Ah, you see, this is why you may be seen as an Allam apologist. You do not end, or postscript, every post on here with **** off or ****s. An easily remedied oversight that will in future negate any ambiguity.
I'm not contending that you're allowed to think that, I'm saying the club gave no indication of not rating him right up until the point that it would require them to fork out money. Funny that.
He was made captain of our poor squad and the only rb in our thread bare squad. It’s like been the best looking kid in the burns unit
You've completely missed my point. So why when they were buying Elder to replace Kingsley were they not also buying a RB to replace Lichaj?
Pennington was signed as a CB and McKenzie was pretty average the season before. I just can't match up 'they didn't rate Lichaj' with making him captain (when to me JDW was our most natural captain) and having him as a clear first choice RB.
McKenzie was a youth player coming through. And was a stand out at youth level unless we try him we’d never know. Pennington signed as a football player.
Yeah fair points, I just find it a bit distasteful dumping our captain that way. And people can't deny that when we were flying he looked very good bombing down the right. Think it was worth keeping him for another season for what can't have been a huge wage. Experience if nothing else is valuable in itself. McKenzie will be our new starting RB next season before inevitably leaving on a free to choruses of "He wasn't good enough anyway".
Maybe we could have expected a bit more from our captain and vice captains. They are supposed to be the leaders, they should have been the first ones to put their hands up to help the club and their team mates to stay in the division
McKenzie's playing right back, because we have haven't got any other right backs, he's actually a centre back and it shows.
Against Chelsea i actually thought he looked far better going forward when he had the opportunity to attack there full backs, don't rate him as a defender so far though.
