Apparently we’ve paid out over 4m in wages over last year in agents fees. That’s a staggering figure given our success with transfers. Only success being Ben white. So what exactly does Orla do? Some would have you believe he’s the mastermind behind the signings and also the annual clear outs of those not up to scratch. If he’s been paid handsomely why do we need to throw away another 4m on agents. Answers on a postcard please

It's quite simple: you buy a player, you pay an agents fee; you sell a player, you pay an agents fee; and if you loan in/out, you pay an agents fee.

Nothing new there, as for a long time you couldn't blink without paying the barstewards. The only difference I can see this season is that we had a massive clearout to take us down to the bare bones, plus a few hefty loan-in fees.

I still don't understand why these fcuking leeches are allowed to operate in this manner. FIFA have it within their power to sort it, but don't. Why? Crooked FIFA? You might think that, but I couldn't possibly comment.

Obvious solution is let players pay their own agents fees

It's the buying club that pays the agents fees, and it's usually 5% of players annual salary.
That figure of £4M seems quite high for a Championship team, as implies your wage bill is way too high at this level.

Would explain why you were first in the queue to defer wages.

    Plain wrong.

Clubs engage agents to buy AND sell players. Pretty sure agents get a cut on loan deals too - both in & out.

Edit: A quick Google produced this article first. It's all about FIFA reducing Agent fees. Eye-opener - I think it's far too generous. Imagine what they must be getting now.

https://www.lexology.com/library/de...e the agent is acting,10% of the transfer fee.

    No it isn't
This explains it far better than I could as lots of different ways agents get paid (all by buying club)

    https://www.danielgeey.com/post/but-who-actually-pays-football-agents/

Championship teams paid £47M combined in agent fees last season - Swansea and Stoke only teams higher than Leeds and probably a result of deferred Comms from Prem.

I edited my post before reading yours. Check the link. Why would FIFA want to reduce 'selling' agents fees if they don't exist? There have been reports of transfers taking place where both the buying & selling clubs have engaged agents, and neither were the players agent. He, of course, was involved too. There's also loads of evidence of top agents getting a multi-million bung for making the transfer happen, but still the above 3 agents get involved too.

Have no doubt that lots of dodgy deals get done by most clubs, but in these days of FFP, would be insane for clubs to pay agents for players that are leaving.
They would either be out of contract, or wanted by another club who would stump up the agents fee.

Some agents like Raiola have earnt in excess of $50M in commission - how fooked up is that!!!

Buying and selling clubs pay agents fees. Liverpool paid something in the region of 40m last season despite ,asking only a couple of signings. Much of that went towards shipping players out
