I think that could be ****ing huge if the situation is handled the right way and doesn't ostracise the people it needs onside.

BLM, if it is handled responsibly, could be the first through the brick wall and create far more equity across the board.

The problem with the whole thing is its not white vs black its rich vs poor regardless of race. Really blm should be going after the church and the masons as they are the truly oppressive institutions running things

I personally believe that they've adopted the right cause, just the wrong slogan.

It's a gift for people who want to deliberately view things simplistically and will retort with WLM.

It excludes Asian, Chinese, European, etc, immigrants who may otherwise have similar feelings.

And it is too 'them and us' imo.

I know from working in inner city cities, in France and England, that there's all kinds of racism.

BLM is the spoken reaction to the notion that, for many white people, only WLM. So the natural reaction for some is to counter with WLM which makes no progress, its just the same tit for tat nonsense that goes round in circles.

Some white people might see joining a black movement, which 'BLM' may sound like to them, as a step too far whereas a movement that clearly involves everyone might be easier

Something like 'Let's work together' would be better ...

... there's already a great tune that we can use <laugh>

Together we stand, divided we fall
Come on now people, let's get on the ball and work together
Come on, come on let's work together, now now people
Because together we will stand, every boy every girl and a man
Before when things go wrong, as they sometimes will
And the road you travel, it stays all uphill
Let's work together, come on, come on, let's work together
You know together we will stand, every boy, girl, woman and a man
Oh well now, two or three minutes, two or three hours
What does it matter now, in this life of ours
Let's work together, come on, come on
Let's work together, now now people
Because together we will stand, every boy, every woman and a man
Oh come on, let's work together
Oh well now, make someone happy, make someone smile,
Let's all work together and make life worthwhile
Let's work together, come on, come on
Let's work together, now now people
Because together we will we stand, every boy, girl, woman and a man
Well now, together we will stand,
Every boy, girl, woman and a man

You're wrong again and totally missing the point.

I specifically said the slogan, you saw it as 'the movement' .

In fact my entire post was clearly about the slogan.

You keep seeing things as you wish to see them, not as they actually are.

This is where I think you're doing the same thing that you refer to here though:

If you know what the slogan is meant to convey, then it is only a 'gift' because reasonable people like yourself who know exactly why it's being said, who believe that they are justified in their cause, spend more time talking about the slogan, or being annoyed by wording/methods instead of focusing on the meaning behind them, which as you say, you do know and agree with.

If good, reasonable people could get past that when they know in their hearts what is being said, I think it would be a massive thing.

    My points remain.

You just appear increasingly, and automatically, contradictory and contrary in every response.

The fact that lots of people are talking about the slogan shows it's a gaffe imo.

Martin Luther King said 'I have a dream' which was wonderful, hopeful and decent' ...

... if he'd said 'I have a plan' it would've sounded dreadful even if it was innocent and honest.

I'll allow other people to judge what I've said.

We shouldn't let the banner slogan get in the way of what it represents: I think mthat it is vital that we white folk listen

We all need to hold up our hands and say
    - I have an unconscious bias in this case towards races and ethnicities (though possibly women and LGBTQ too)
    - the result of which has lead me to form stereotypes
    - When I meet people these stereotypes prevent me from interacting with them on a sub-conscious level

    And
I want to hear the voices of those who have been undermined, held back and unfairly treated

    And
    THIS IS HARD!

    Need to rewrite the chorus

"together we will stand every boy every girl every non-binary, every transgender"... Etc! Otherwise we'll have a whole different complaint on our hands!

And don't forget the midgets ...

... or do we now call them 'otherwise heightened but old enough to go on all the rides at Alton Towers'.

    Fuxake, give it up <laugh>

The term Black an inclusive term for all groups who live in a disadvantaged society, including Romany Gipsies for instance

That isn't something that needs a discussion

I'm talking about the 3 word slogan and why I believe it's a gaffe.

I'm not talking about the small print and not asking you to agree with my opinion of the slogan.

It's shyte in my opinion and I believe it looks divisive.

    That was quite funny btw

Could you kindly address the whole post as it has reduced meaning if parts are isolated. I'm genuinely interested in your reaction to it, not just you or Disco, anyone for that matter

I don't disagree entirely, I'm just saying you have a voice, and you're choosing to use it to attack the slogan even when you know what the meaning behind it is something you agree with.

Like I said, BLM was spontaneous and arose during a moment where black people in America were trying to find respectful ways to create a conversation about why they were being treated differently. The statement that 'black lives matter' was as you say, a response to the problem that they did not matter to a lot of people in authority.

It wasn't an organised thing where you can complain to a leadership committee to say they should have used a different campaign slogan :D
