So there will be 7 names on the ballot paper and I was wondering what people thought of the candidates. Gay Mitchell - Fine Gael - Intelligent but lacks charisma in my view Michael D Higgins - Labour - Utterly unexceptional in my view Martin McGuinness - Sinn Fein - Intelligent and charismatic but has skeletons in his closet that won't be ignored Mary Davis - Independant - The only credentials she has is the special olympics work she did Sean Gallagher - Independant - Successful businessman but is that enough for the position David Norris - Independant - Again intelligent and charismatic but has skeletons Dana Rosemary Scallon - Independant - I don't even know why she is running It has been a low key campaign so far and there are no stand out candidates but then I could be falling into the trap of comparing them to the previous two presidents.
"Skeletons in his closet", apart from from Toby's, that closet has more in it that a Tesco warehouse!
Marty and Michael D are the only credible candidates. Michael D's role in establishing the film board and in overseeing the establishing of TG4 have been culturally pivotal in Ireland. Dismissing him as unexceptional, especially for a role like this is very unfair. Martin shant get any transfers but I believe he is the ideal candidate.
That's just my impression of Higgins. I do agree that with all Martin McGuinness has done for peace he is the ideal candidate and I find it funny that certain people in the Republic think he is suitable for his role in the NI Executive but not for the Irish Presidency.
The only role i think he's suitable for is to be brutally beaten by angry families of those he had killed whilst in his IRA role.
Alleged to have had killed. He has done more for peace in the last 20 years than others have done, he is charismatic and intelligent and he would do a lot for the whole island if he were elected.
I have to say that I know no **** out of that list apart from that ****er McGuinness, so in true not606 fashion, when one doesn't know what one is speaking about, I will put in my bit anyway. They are all ****s!
He is as charismatic as a half filled bucket of water. The first thing he would do, would be to try and reunite Ireland, prompting more military action from the UK, making everyones lives more miserable. I don't trust him one bit.
Gay Byrne is a cock still bitter about having his arse handed to him by Gerry back in 1994. Dermot Ahern and Michael McDowell got destroyed in that interview as well. They showed that day that they hadn't a ****ing notion of what was happening in SF at that time. listen to that debate again. The one man who didn't get battered by Gerry was Jimmy Kemmy. Listen to his predictions and how right he turned out to be. He refused to get drawn on the mud slinging. Kevin Myers thinks he dictates the national zeitgeist. He doesn't, he is a ****. This election is stacked against Martin in many ways (and a lot of things for him too) but that isn't going to stop this being marked down as the point where SF began to encroach on the old civil war FF/FG carve up. I suspected you'd support Norris, what with your mild unionist schtick
Who, me? I support his right to run because it is fundamental to a democracy but I would never vote for him myself if I could.
I am going to ask a daft question here, but are there many Unionists in the South? I have always heard that there are 5% prods and the orange bit on the flag is because of the Orangemen, but are there really that many Unionists?<opencanofworms>
Sean Gallagher did Celebrity boxing and showed some balls and is the best on Dragons Den......but I'd not vote for him.
If I could i would vote Martin. A strong relationship between North and South is important and I believe he would be the best man for the task
