[email protected] - Here's the councillor directly involved in the decision not to sell to the Allams. I'm going to drop him a line now. Who's next?
That definitely seems to be the question that needs answering before everyone overreacts like many seem to be doing already. I will side with the Allams but I can't really say anything bad about the council because of this until the true facts are known, if they ever will be. The deal could have been one that only benefited the Allams in the long term. Yes the council should support the creation of jobs but not if has to give up too much in return.
He offered to build a £120m sports village, if the council were willing to contribute £30m in the form of that value in the stadium, with him raising the other £90m. Removing an eyesore, creating hundreds of jobs, with clauses to prevent the stadium being redeveloped into anything other than a sports stadium. Start writing, the man's a buffoon.
Not sure how accurate the bloke on Humberside was - but apparently Geraghty stated the stadium would be sold "over his dead body". If so, I can imagine how negotiations were a touch tricky...
Absolute idiocy, even if he did want it for free, the benefit of having the sports village and the money he would be spending on the City is far more than the 30M the council wanted. An from an economic view point it is absolutely stupid, who really thinks Hull fair is good for the city? As all the money spent is going out of the city, it is gaining no money for the city, all of the money goes to the gypsy who move on from our area.
Geraghty came across pretty well in his interview on Radio Humberside (imo). Who knows what Allam really wants to do? He is a business man, and he comes across well in interviews, saying he wants to give back to Hull etc... but do any of us truly know what will happen in the future. Evidence does indeed support the view that Allam is aiming to support the club, and I imagine he would fulfil his promise of a sports village, but what if he has a change of heart, or decides he can't quite afford it? Hull Fair should have no bearing on the decision, it takes money out of the City and there are plenty of other locations for the Fair. I'm not sure to be honest. Maybe Allam would deliver and give us a great area around the stadium, but maybe it is better the devil you know? We don't need a stadium expansion by any stretch of the imagination, it would be nice to have a sports village... but things aren't so bad are they?
But then the response should be to have a team of lawyers produce an agreement of sale that's tighter than a cod's arse at 40 fathoms, that ensures completion, and puts penalties in place if it does not get completed. If the Allams are serious - they should have no problems with this. To refuse this level of capital investment when we're on the verge of a second recession, on the day a local employer has laid off 900 people is frankly obscene. If these people cannot cope with running a city - they shouldn't stand for election.
Below is the letter I sent him, but to the people who are angry enough to complain on here I would say - you are having no effect unless you send your complaints to him. Mr Geraghty It has now been announced that you and the city council have decided to deny Mr Allam the right to buy the KC stadium and the surrounding land for the proposed Sports Village. As a supporter of Hull City I would like to know: - Why Mr Brady lied to the people of Hull when he promised that there would be a referendum allowing them to have the final decision on this project? - Why the council have now made it impossible for Mr Allam to expand the capacity of the ground which in turn reduces the chances of Hull having a successful Premiership representative in the future? - Why you have now increased the likelihood of a new ground being situated in Melton causing great inconvenience to the bulk of our supporters? - Why you have abandoned the masses of people in Hull who supported this opportunity to actually see growth in a city that has fallen behind it’s neighbours due to the stagnant attitude of councillors like yourself? - Why you have prevented the job creation that this venture would have surely brought to Hull? - Why you have prevented the sale of a stadium that would have pumped money into the local economy, therefore protecting threatened jobs and services? - Why you do not support the local football team that has done more than anything you or any of your colleagues have done in recent years to ‘put Hull on the map?’ - Finally why have you taken this retrograde step in order to support an annual fair that puts no money into Hull’s economy (but instead takes money out of the city) when it is surely possible to find another site for Hull Fair? I await your comments.
Great letter. I've had a rant on another thread. Would be interested to see an open reply in th Mail but I bet we don't.
From what people are saying about Geraghty - I'd be surprised if the mail even gets opened... it would mean turning the computer on.
I'm posting blatantly to try and keep this on top as I think it's important that the maximum number of people possible contact Mr Geraghty. OLM - is there any chance of making this a sticky?
This project would probably make no impact on me whatsoever. But I am completely shocked this project has even been delayed and questioned never mind denied. I would just love for Leicesters super rich owners to make a proposition like this, but quite frankly they couldn't give a toss, they're just having a laugh with spare cash. If I lived in the Hull area I'd be going livid right now at this being turned down specially if I was unemployed and leeching off the council. The men in charge of your city must be utter tossers with no sense whatsoever, if Leicesters owners did propose a project like this, our council would snap their hands off in a second. This is idiocy at the highest level and it annoys me that one mans ego, personal satisfaction and ignorance of a sporting team that has brought so much recognition and stature to the city, all because it clashes with his personal favourite sporting team, has caused this development to come to a halt. This could change peoples lives, but the arsehole is more bothered about himself. How did he ever get in charge in the first place? If he's not sacked in the morning I'd be rioting outside his office getting ready to nail him to a cross and burn him alive.
Craig, I'll make it a sticky for now to try to save you bumping and having too many threads on the same topic. I'm not certain emailing Geraghty's the way forward as he doesn't have the final say, it's down to the committee, of which he's just one member.
I only heard it on Look North last night, where has all this other info come from. Dinosaur Geraughty has always said over his dead body so how can he now turn around and say it hasn't been turned down, I am assumming the information is coming from somewhere
Gerraghty's relating his version of the meeting with the Allam's, some of which is contradicted by Adam Pearson's understanding of the situation and by reports attributing other words to Mr Geraghty. At the moment, the only one looking credible is Adam Pearson.
