And would you be able to add the percentage of violent crime by ethnicity? Obviously the whole picture would be beneficial.
He was apprehended for trying to spend a $20 forged note... he wasn't a threat by anyone's account including the store owner.
A crime committed in 2007? In a different state? That has nothing at all to do with the current situation? Yes?
If you say so. The rights and wrongs of the world according to KM. So, put yourself in the police officers position. You are about to make an arrest so you do a background check. You discover that his most recent arrest was for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Tell me mr righteous, how would you have approached the situation?
If he didn't resist arrest for a forged bank note? I sure as **** wouldn't kill him. I don't understand why you're pretending I'm being unreasonable here. If they don't have the cognitive skills to deal with these situations in a more nuanced way than killing an unarmed man, not resisting arrest, based on a crime he committed in 2007, they aren't fit to be police officers. Simple as that and you would of course feel the same if it was you or a loved one's neck being knelt on. Quite why you're trying to find ways of justifying it based on falsehoods (the pregnant lady gun myth) or completely made up events (what if he resisted arrest and nobody saw it!!) I guess WE'LL NEVER KNOW. But it sure as **** sounds like you're desperate to make out that this was something it wasn't. This is the store owner's account. Just before you start making some more fantasies up to start justifying the killing.
I think the problem was the fact that pressing a knee on the back of somebodies neck for 8 minutes is not exactly within the 'How to make an arrest' handbook. I myself have generally no problem with a little bit of police brutality if the perp deserves it. But that policeman basically tortured the man to death.
I also work for a police force where they are very acutely aware of racism and racist terms. Every week we have a newsletter come out. Every week there is a section in there relating to health and safety. Its title? OSH Nitty Gritty. You would think that if the phrase was racist then it wouldn’t be used, don’t you? I also worked with a black police officer in the UK who tried to tell anyone who would listen that the phrase was racist as it referred to slavery. When challenged to provide evidence of the term being racist, she couldn’t. I had diversity training thrown down my neck every year and not once did any of the black trainers tell us that it was a racist term whilst telling me and my colleagues many other phrases or terms that were. I guess what I’m saying is that just because it has been put about that the term is racist it doesn’t follow that it is. Just like them up the road put it about that a certain number 9 was the best striker in the world or we sing that we are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen it ain’t necessarily so.
My son, who's a manager at the Royal Mail, was sent a email asking him to avoid using the phrase 'beyond the pale' to an Irish lad who'd complained. My son sent an email back asking if he should check if any of his staff have Russian heritage as it was originally Catherine the Great to blame.
Good post EJK In a nutshell people will find rascism or prejudice wherever they look if they want to. This is the reason why we'll never be rid of it as what offends one person of a particular ethnicity may not offend another. People are people and all have different upbringings and life experiences. It's from those that we base our beliefs. If someone wants to feel agrieved they will find a reason and there's bugger all the rest of us can do about it.
very difficult subject which most people have very firmly held views. Its very also very difficult to imagine what's its like to be a coloured person in a country where you are pretty much under suspicion all the time. A very good friend of mine in Virginia gets stopped at least twice a month as he is a black guy driving a top of the range BMW. Police stop him regularly for a variety of made up reasons pretty much to check he details, he looks upon this as part and parcel of life in the USA....very sad
Pretty much. If it fits an agenda or narrative for that person then in their mind at least it’s true. But, you can have your own opinion. What you cannot have are your own facts.
I sympathise with a lot of ethnic minorities due to certain treatments or injustices they endure in this country. I am also comforted in the knowledge that they are still treated a lot better than those in most other countries.
"Our next contestant is Kittenmittons. Welcome to Mastermind 2020, your specialised subject is 'missing the point' please take the chair .... err please come back and bring the chair with you."
What are you on about? Because smug is making up the idea that people are offended by nitty gritty? You can disagree, fine, but I ain't the prick here. You can **** off with your 'bites' craic too. Just because I disagree? ****ing hell.
Also smug, still not going to answer the post I made this morning? I'm happy to have the debate if you are. Just got to engage with me in good faith and I'll do the same
