The whole of Gillingham is full of rat runs or used to be many moons ago. Lot's of terrace housing, so the rat runs were served as short cuts through the terracing, or in some cases access to back gardens. The rat runs either side of the away end, I suppose are still there, otherwise you get caught in a dead end, I still think that would be safer, then potentially allowing home supporters access to that area. I know when I escorted some away fans down there, the police were patrolling them in large numbers, so lessons from the past have obviously been learned.
If that's the old Rotherham ground, I've been there, actually got in free that day, because some silly fooker left the gates open.
Yes! it was. We played them in a LC game one midweek in the 90’s and it was ****ing mayhem at the end.
Memory is vague now, all i remember is it being a shhite hole, but all the old standing terrace stadiums were, to be fair.
Some of the places I've been to, I wonder how I'm still alive sometimes, everything from Swindon which was bad back in the day through to Millwall and the old Den. I look back now and think I needed my head testing....oh hang on, I still do
I'd have probably gone to Rotherham next year had we got relegated this season. Still not been to a ground in Yorkshire.
Funniest moment had to be back at Swindon away in the early days. I was a bit of a stubborn fooker, and the Swine got into our section, before I knew it I was fooking surrounded by a red army of colour....I'm thinking, ok now what Thankfully the old bill piled in and saved my neck <phew>
Same mate. In the early to mid 90’s it was usually easy getting away tickets, but as the years went on it got harder. So I’d take a seat in the home ends, I wasn’t arsed. Sat in places like the Leeds Kop on my tod ffs, what the **** was I thinking of?
The new ground is painfully **** in every way apart from being virtually on the motorway. You can go to Leeds next year anyway.
But the thing is mate, we look back and it was fun and I've got some fantastic memories, you will have especially visiting some of those iconic grounds. I wouldn't have changed it for the world, regardless of how shhite it looks now. Best days of my footballing life, I miss it with a passion, but in someways glad, because those sort of places are not good on an ageing body.
@Tobes you ever fancy a quiet snoop around, go on the Leeds board and look up this lass.... https://www.not606.com/members/followme-leedsunited.1047368/ From what I see she's been a Leeds fan all her life, even went to the World Cup Munich 1974.....loads of Scotland stuff and much more....she's seen players such as Bremner and Co....proper memorabilia stuff. I have quiet snoop sometimes, just to relive a few past memories of old. I've got a lot of respect for her as fan, she's been about the most commited I've ever seen and such a broad knowledge.
Bang right mate. There was a group of 5 of us who went to virtually every away for a couple of seasons mid 90’s. We’d take it in turns to drive, first stop - the off licence, and off we’d go. Find a pub near the ground - never wore colours, and we’d be guaranteed to have a laugh. Great times.
