Leeds players looked very lethargic. Was this due to: A) travel arrangements to Cardiff without hotel availability, B) no friendly warm up games before thus restart?
Some of the sharpness was lacking. We turned down friendlies against Everton and Huddersfield in favour of in-house match-ups. Cardiff played Swansea twice. Think we might have been sharper with the friendlies but arguably if we could finish we would have won easily. Think they did get a hotel the day before.
not all of them... most stayed at the Tap Inn, but not Paddy, he gave it a miss .... reaches for coat and hails cab
Seems a shame that even if we do achieve promotion Bamford will receive zero credit from many supporters. Still time in my opinion for him to improve as he has low mileage on his football games played clock. This season he's been stronger with a fantastic work ethic for the team and as far as I'm aware it's the first time he hasn't succumbed to injury.
Hopefully you're right as he's worked his socks off. Maybe I put too much emphasis on opinions expressed on here...like the ones who want him shot for example. There also seems to be a large anyone but Bamford group amongst the forum cognescenti.
My personal opinion is he links play well and works hard... but then I consider working hard to be a minimum requirement. His goal return this year compared to chances is awful. I think his expected goals - xg (not a perfect stat but a useful guide) is roughly half what he should have. So whilst you could argue that maybe others wouldn’t have got in the positions he has etc - it’s pretty hard to make a case for his return being anything other than a huge disappointment - I’m sure he feels the same. let’s hope he goes on a streak and bags the goals that get us promoted.
I've not slagged him off but yesterday he was awful, the trouble for me was he didn't look interested, having an off game or 2, I can cope with but if there's little or no effort then that really pee's me off.
Personally that's not something I saw. Against a deep and narrow defence I thought at times he did well to lose his markers and find space in the box. I'm not trying to say he had a great game, more that he's just become an easy target whenever we don't get the desired result.
I’m not suggesting anything. I’m stating his xg stats. He plays in a side that creates more chances than any other in the division and his goal return is awful this year. last year Maupay, mcburnie... Bowen in Jan this year... all younger, hotter prospects scored plenty more from fewer chances and all went for less than half the figure you’re suggesting. I’m not criticising his other attributes but purely in front of goal this year he’s been a disaster
Forgive me. As you've referenced expected goals stats a few times previously I assumed you're of the opinion that they're a useful measure and guide. Should we now question whether LL just brings his propaganda vids to the political forum for information purposes only and they do not represent his own personal views or opinions ? Personally I think Bamford is about 10 goals short and given his overall contibution to the team and the fact he's played in the PL before he'd be a very valuable asset if he'd scored those goals. Maybe my valuation was a little OTT, unfortunately we'll never know unless he starts banging them in for fun in the PL next season.
More like £25m. But that doesnt mean thats what we'd pay for him prior to achieving that if we wanted a top striker. Depends on your scouting network and stat man Orta. Norwich signed former Celtic striker Teemu Pukki on a free transfer from Danish side Brondby. Ollie Watkins 22 goals this season - £1.8m.
There seemed to be more than a couple of times the offside flag went up in a trigger happy fashion and I was fuming at the assistant ref. To be honest I wasn't aware of Bamford's involvement, probably due to turning purple and being incandescent with rage.
Oh give over lads. Bamford is and never will be good enough. I'll guarantee that he won't transfer upwards again in his entire career. I've been as patient as anyone with him but it's just not happening for him at Leeds. I'm sick of seeing his clumsy first touch or his air shots or his mis-kicks or his off sides and obviously his new trick is to prevent others from doing his job for him. He can fook off as far as I'm concerned. I'm done with him. Even if he scores the decisive goal to get us up I will still maintain my position.
It's an interesting debate as in all likelihood transfer values will be far less than previously. Can't really see anyone in the championship making a big signing this summer for example. The isssue really is about current wage liabilities and we're in as much trouble as anyone should we fail to acheive promotion.
